Importing Linked Microsoft Excel Tables into MicroStation The following instructions explain a procedure to build Tables in Microsoft Excel and import them into MicroStation as a link. All Tables built using this method will have the same size text and a uniform look when imported into MicroStation . Create table In Excel : 1. When Excel is first opened confirm that the text size default is 10 and the font is Arial. This is the correct size for the general body of the table . 2. The subtitles or column headings should be size 12. 3. The title or heading of the table should be size 14. 4. The Title and subtitle text should be bold: otherwise, when imported into MicroStation the text is too light. 5. Set row height to 25 for the Title and subtitle and a row height of 14 for all other text. Right click on the row and set height. 6. Set the line weight on the border to heavy and all others set to desired weight.

1 Importing Linked Microsoft Excel Tables into MicroStation The following instructions explain a procedure to build Tables in Microsoft Excel and import them into MicroStation as a link. All Tables built using this method will have the same size text and a uniform look when imported into MicroStation . Create table In Excel : 1. 2 To Import into MicroStation : 1. Open both the Excel file and the MicroStation file. Set scale in MicroStation and place plan sheet in file. 2. In Excel hi-lite the portion of the table you want to import and right click copy. Note: select only the area of the Excel table . If an area outside of the table is selected, grid lines will appear outside the table in MicroStation . 3. In the MicroStation file under the Edit command, click on paste special. 4. In the paste special box choose Linked Microsoft Office Excel worksheet and click paste. 5. Another box will open called paste ole. In this box choose paste as: link and choose method: by size. 6. The box will expand asking for a scale. For US Customary choose for 100 scale border sheet. 7. After you key in , you will see a square or rectangular dashed shape. This is the shape of your table . Place the shape in the border sheet. The table will then appear.

3 8. Now the table can be moved or deleted. Changes to the text in the Excel file can be updated in the MicroStation table with the Edit update links command. 9. Column or row additions or deletions will not update with the update links command and the table must be deleted and imported again as a new link. Note: The person who initially imports the Excel file into MicroStation will be the person who updates the link. If another user needs to update any table they must correct the link to point to their dms folder by Edit/Links then change source command.
