The 2017 budget process has been rigorousand the Board has had robust debates around the economic environment in which the School operates. We are pleased to report that the School is in a stable financial positiondespite the pressure that the tough economy is placing on both the School and our parents. We continue to offer a quality education supplemented with a growing sport and cultural offering. We are committed to spending wisely on the upkeep, maintenance and development of our pressures placed on the School s cash flow remains high, and we urge parents to prioritise payment of tuition fees and extras in order, not only to assist the School in this regard, but also to avoid situations where the School may have to enforce its rights in terms of your contract.

The Board has approved the 2017budget at its September meet these expenses the general increase in tuitionand boarding fees has been set at , while the development levy will be raised by are very mindful of the pressures facing parents, and so have worked hard to keep our fee increase as close to CPI as possible. The banded-fee model introduced last year will hopefully also assist many parents/guardians by restricting the overall increase to those parents whose child moves from one area of the School to another, where there are greater resources required, then the overall increase will be greater. These fees are influenced by factors such as class sizes, extras provided by the School, the number of subjects being taught, extra-mural activities offered, refer to the attached Schedule of Fees for full details. We will continue to offer a differentiated fee to parents who wish to pay theirfull tuition fees in advance .

Again, please see the attached Schedule for these fees. For your information the following cut-off dates will apply: o Tuition accounts for the full 2017year that are settled before Friday 18 November2016 will have a differentiated pricing structure. o Similarly, if full 2017 fees are settled before Friday 9 December2016, another differentiated pricing structure will be applicable. o Please note that the development levy attracts no discount if paid in advance . o Boarding fees remain fully payable in advance based on your contract with the School. In all cases, parentswill be billed monthly in advance (as per your contract with the School) from January to October ( 10 months). All extra costs for books, sport, functions, outings, etc. will be billed as they are incurred and are due and payable when will often require these expenses to be paid in advance , and we ask for your co-operation in ensuring that this happens.

We would like to encourage parents who pay annually in advance to pay an amount in excess of the tuition fees to cover your child s extras that will be billed to your account through 2017. We thank you for your continued support and wish you and your family a successful Advent 2016 term at Bishop Bavin School. Yours sincerely WAYNE HILL ALSITAIR DRY RUSS STROUD CHAIRMAN EXECUTIVE HEAD BUSINESS MANAGER ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING FEES AND PAYMENTS Fees are billed over 10 months from January to October. Tuition fees and development levy are billed in advance and boarding fees are billed termly in advance . Parent s contracts with the School state clearly that Non-payment will result in your child not being admitted to the School . Should a parent s account with the School fall into arrears the School reserves the right to apply various sanctions to ensure payment of all outstanding fees.

Parents/guardians who choose to pay via debit order must be aware that the School will collect these amounts, which will be fixed per month, on the 20th, 25th, last day of the month or first day of the month. Debit order collections will be collected monthly in advance so January 2017 debit orders will be collected in December 2016. Any extras on your account need to be settled via EFT when billed . Boarding fees will be invoiced termly in advance . Payment for the full term must be paid prior to the end of the preceding term, we will no longer accept payment the day before the term starts. The reason for this change was outlined in a letter to all boarding parents during 2015. No discount is applicable to boarding fees. Term 1 2017 boarding fees have to be paid before the start of Term 1 2017. Please liaise with the Business Manager or the Accounts team should you have any queries.

Please ensure that if paying by EFT that your payment is correctly referenced, stating your child s account number (as per the ENGAGE statement) with the School. The School encourages all parents to pay electronically, we will no longer accept cash at the School. Further to the 2017 fees the below policies are still in place and we would like to bring these to your attention: Application Fees A fee of R 500 charged for all students who make application to the School, this fee is non-refundable and must accompany every application. Placement Fees A Placement Fee is a once-off fee payable when the School offers your child a place at the School. Payment of this fee secures your child the place and is not refundable under any circumstances, even if you later decide not to take up the place. These fees remain at the current level R 6,000 for Junior and Preparatory schools and R10,000 for College.

Non-Resident Parents Our experience is that overseas (defined as not permanently resident in South Africa) parents sometimes sadly leave us owing fees, which results in the School being prejudiced as legal action to recover these fees is costly and often not effective. Accordingly each situation is discussed individually with the Accounts Department and the School reserves the right to put specific conditions against acceptance. There may be a deposit requested, or parents may need to pay fees annually in advance . Each situation is different and will be discussed with the parents directly and these conditions will be part of the contract with the School. Any parent who does not adhere to these stipulated conditions may have their contract with the School suspended or cancelled. Any parent/guardian who is contractually required to pay fees annually in advance will not be permitted to enrol their child/children as at day 1 of Tem 1 2017 unless all contractually obligated fees are settled.

Students will be denied access where they have not settled contractually obligated fees including boarding. Boarding Fees Boarding fees are invoiced and payable termly in advance . The fees must be paid prior to the completion of the preceding term, and a clearance certificate must be obtained from the Accounts Department prior to checking your child into the boarding house. Checking into the boarding houses will only happen between 16:00 and 19:00 the day prior to term commencing. Should this not be acceptable special situations need to be communicated and agreed with the Boarding Master/Mistress. Interest Interest on overdue amounts on your school account will be charged at 1% per month. The interest will be debited to your account at each billing cycle. Bank Charges The bank charges for cheques, debit orders or stop orders that are returned owing to lack of available funds in parents accounts have increased rapidly in recent years.

The School will continue to levy a charge of R 250 per returned payment. Notice of Termination Should you decide for any reason to remove your child from Bishop Bavin School, then the School requires a written communication advising the Executive Head or the Head of the relevant section of the school (Junior, Preparatory or College) of your decision. You will also appreciate, because the School cannot fill the vacancy immediately, we require a full term s notice, and we will be obliged to charge you for this notice period if your child is removed from School prior to this notice period. A term s fees is calculated as one third of annual fees; the Development Levy will also be charged if notice is not correctly given. Aftercare, Holiday Programmes, Tuck Shop, Meal Tickets and Music Lessons These services have all been sub-contracted to third parties, and so any fees for these activities should be paid directly to the sub-contractor, and not to the School.

Development Levy The Development Levy is charged monthly over 10 months along with the tuition fees. These funds will used for improvements to the campus that are of a capital nature. They may also be used to maintain our buildings.
