4 We trust that your involvement with us will be an enriching experience, on a personal and professional level. The post basic programmes in Nursing are offered by the School of Nursing Science and delivered by the Unit for Open Distance Learning (UODL). We are proud of the contribution made over the past decade to prepare professional nurses as Managers, Educators, Primary health Care Practitioners and Community health Care Practitioners. Interactive whiteboard sessions at learning support centres on dedicated Saturdays are compulsory, as it is evident from research and student feedback that our throughput rate is amongst the highest in the country. During these sessions the emphasis is on learning not teaching. Students are expected to take part during these sessions as there is direct contact with the lecturer.

5 We also provide interactive study guides. The purpose of these guides is to provide you with answers to many of your possible questions and give guidance with the utilisation of your prescribed literature. Please take time to read through these guides thoroughly in order to prepare you with the INFORMATION you will E BornmanActing Director of the School of Nursing A Word of welcome by the Chief Director: Student Academic Life Cycle Administration and Unit for Open Distance Learning The North-West University, the second largest university in South-Africa besides UNISA, has a Unit for Open Distance Learning that takes care of the administration and operations of more than 20 000 students. Through its UODL, access is given to students who would otherwise never have had the opportunity to study at a university.

6 Modern technology and Wi-Fi- are used to provide teaching and learning for ODL students, and operational support s is delivered to students at more than 70 learning support centres in South Africa and School of Nursing in the Faculty of health sciences currently has more than 300 students enrolled in different Advanced Diplomas. The School is busy developing new programmes and will soon deliver these to students via ODL. One of the main goals of the NWU in future is to further develop its ODL programmes from different faculties. ODL is the only way to provide access to higher education for students in rural areas and also to working people. The NWU is committed to fulfil these goals and subsequently afford social justice to EJ SpamerChief Director: Student Academic Life cycle Administration and the Unit for Open Distance Learning Page 5 Inquiries and channels of communication and contacts List of typical inquiriesUNIT FOR OPEN DISTANCE LEARNINGA pplication forms and enquiries.
