INSTALLATION AND TROUBLE SHOOTINGMANUALfor all Models ofNova KoolAC/DCand DC onlyRefrigerators and you for choosing Nova Kool for your refrigeration over 20 years we have been providing quality DC & AC/DCproducts for mobile, off power grid and energy conscious installationsaround the unit goes through a battery of tests to ensure strictcompliance with our quality policy Strive for continual improvement ofall business processes while involvingall associates in themanagement of quality . Your unit has been run test at the plant for aminimum of 12hrs, followed by a series of inspections and electricaltests to ensure the quality, the reliability and the safety of your Nova Kool units are covered by a 2-year parts warranty thatcommences upon delivery of the unit to the end user take the time to fill in the information below which can be foundon the inside of your new will help when phoning forservice or warranty #_____Serial #_____Date of Purchase: _____Date of Del of Vessel: _____(Or vehicle where applicable)Selling dealer: _____Our service department can be reached at 604-523-6515 ext 104,or 7:00am to5:00pm PSTT hermostat operation:All Nova Kool units are supplied with a wide range thermostatthat is designed to sense the evaporator (cold plate) temperature.

Thecoldest position on the thermostat is reached by turning the knob to theright (clockwise); conversely turning the thermostat knob to the left(counterclockwise) yields a warmer positionis reached by turning hardcounterclockwise past the referencepoint is shown with at indicator sticker beside :The unit is ready to run as shipped. After following the electricalinstallation information found in this manual , turn the power on and setthe thermostat between 3 and 4. You can make further adjustments tosuit your personal requirements after the box has cooled down. Allowthe refrigerator to come down to temperature before loading withproduct. Setting the thermostat to a higher setting 7, will notdecrease the time required for the unit to cool down to its normaloperating temperature. AC/DC units cool at the same rate on DCas & Cleaning:The frequency of defrost is dependant on the number of dooropenings, the ambient temperature and the humidity level. Typically, itis a good practice to defrost once there is of frost buildup on eitherside of the evaporator (cold plate).

When defrosting, the unit is shut offat either the breaker panel or by turning the thermostatcounterclockwise to the OFF (0) position. Prop the door open. Wesuggest placing a towel in the bottom of the refrigerator to catch excessmoisture. Speeding up the process with a knifeor scraper is strongly discouraged due to thelikelihood of rupturing the refrigerantcircuit; inthe event this happens give us a call 604-523-6515 that the unit has been defrosted, the interior can be clean with a non-abrasivecleaner. Do not use brilo or sos type brasivepads, as they will score the surfaces. Bakingsoda is Considerations:1. Ventilation:Ventilation should be oneof your first major installationconsiderations. All refrigerators, regardless of make, are heattransfer machines which transferheat from the inside of the boxthru the evaporator, compressorand refrigerant to the condenseron the outside of the box, to bedissipated to theair. The cavitywhere the condenser is locatedMUST be adequately door unitsRequire 30 INLET and 30 OUTLETD ouble door unitsRequire 60 INLET and 60 OUTLET(With the exception of the RFU9000,and theRFU8220which has all of therequired ventilation built into the front of the flange)The INLET should be below the level of the condenser and theOUTLET should be above.

This type of ventilation is ideal and willallow natural convection to take place, drawing cool air in low throughthe INLET, drawing off the heat from the condenser, and allowing thehot air to escape thru the OUTLET. This is how a chimney on afireplace using grilles or registers please consider the free areaas somegrilles can be quite large and still be very restrictive. For thoseinevitable applications that are hard to ventilate completely, provisionshave been made on the electronic module to accept an auxiliary note: adequate ventilation is the responsibility of theinstaller/customer2. Electrical:When fitted with the optional AC/DC module, both AC & DCpower can be connected to the module at the same time. The unit willalways run on AC when AC is available. Should the AC bedisconnected there is a 1 minute time delay before the unit continuesrunning on DC. If AC power is reestablished there is no delay, and theunit will immediately resume running on Electrical: (cont d)The DC models are 12 & 24 VDC (the only consideration is themodels supplied with an interior light, either 12 VDC OR 24 VDC).

TheAC/DC models work on both 12 & 24 VDC as well as from 100-240 VAC 50/60hz. (The interior light on the AC/DC models is always 12vdcregardless of the DC supply voltage). Both modules auto sense thesupply voltages so no wiring adjustments are necessary other thanfollowing the guidelines for DC fuse sizing;DC breaker & fuse sizing20 -amp breaker (main switch) for both 12 & 24 VDCapplications15 Amp fuse for Amp fuse for 24 VDCAC (optional) breaker and fuse sizing (100-240 VAC 50/60 Hz)6 Amp breaker (main switch)4 Amp fuse (included with unit)3. DC Wire Sizing:Ensuring the correct wire sizing will eliminate premature shutdown due to low DC voltageat the follow Kool product is designedto stop running at vdc andcut back in at vdc, toprotect your Compressor Speed:All Nova Kool units are supplied with the silent and efficient BDseries variable speed compressors from Danfoss. Nova Kool hassupplied your unit preset at the optimum speed for most normal applications.

The speed is controlled by aresistor in the thermostat circuit. 0 ohms(n o resistor) runs the compressor on itsslowest speed, a 1523 ohm resistor willprovide you with the fastest speed. Theslower the speed, the lower the ampdraw, and the lower the capacity. INSTALLATION into the Cabinet:Nova Kool publishes its cut out dimensions so that the unit willslide easily into the hole. The dimensions allow a little extra space sothat the unit can be shimmied into place as well as providing extra airspace behind where required. On most models, the mounting screwsare installed and covered by supplied frame plugs (see bag with ownersmanual, ice cube tray & frame plugs). The RFU8000, RFU9000 andflush mounting kits are all installed to the cabinet without screw ensure that you are using the correct cut out dimensions thatrelate to the type of mounting flange you have ordered (flush mountingflanges require an additional for the depth and 1 for both theheight and the width than the standard units)7.

Door Swing:Most models are shipped standard with the door hung on theright. The door swing can easily be reversed by simply removing thehinge pins and latches and installing them on the opposite side. All ofthe required hardware is supplied. Units can be factory ordered with thecorrect door swing (standard is right hinge: door swings from left toright).8. Door panel:The decorative door panels can easily be changed to matchyour interior by first removing the upper hinge pin, then pulling the doorout and up. The door should pull off the lower hinge pin easily. Onceremoved, turn the door upside down and remove the two Phillips headscrews. Then, roll the bottom extrusion towards the door gasket, careful so as not to dislodge the door gasket. You will see a channelwhere you can slide in your panel ShootingCheck DC operation first then check AC/DC starting at #17 YESNO1 Turn DC power on and turn thermostat to "7"positionGo to #22Is the compressor running?
