1 Last updated September 2017 ( ) Page | 1 INSTALLING GENIE CLIENT This guide is intended to assist practices with INSTALLING GENIE CLIENT on a new computer. These steps should not be used when moving GENIE Server to a new computer, or going from a solo to networked practice. GENIE CLIENT INSTALLATION The installer for the most recent version of GENIE can be obtained from the following locations: Windows CLIENT : Macintosh CLIENT : If your practice is on an older version of GENIE , please contact our support desk at or on 1300 889 362 to obtain the correct installer. After downloading the correct installer onto the new computer: 1. Double click the installer file and allow any processes to run to completion. If prompted that the application has been downloaded from the internet, click OK.
2 2. When the installer window opens, click Next. 3. Agree to the licence agreement. 4. If prompted about updating from version 7, click OK. 5. Ensure the destination file path is C:\ GENIE (Windows) or Macintosh HD:Applications: GENIE (Macintosh), then click Next. 6. Select the GENIE CLIENT radio button and click Next. 7. Click Install and allow the installation to run to completion. Upon completion, exit the installer window by clicking Finish. CONNECTING TO THE GENIE SERVER When starting up GENIE CLIENT for the first time on the new computer, it should automatically connect to the GENIE Server. If not, you will need to use the Custom Connect window to direct the application to the GENIE Server: 1. Double-click the GENIE CLIENT icon to start, then immediately hold down the Alt/Option key on your keyboard. A Connection to 4D Server window will appear.
3 2. Select the Custom tab. 3. Enter GENIE in the Database Name field. 4. Enter the IP address of your server computer in the Network Address field. 5. Click OK to connect. Note: The server IP address is displayed under System Information on the Monitor tab of the 4D Server Administration window. Alternatively, go to your server and follow the steps in the discovering IP address section for Windows and Mac in the GENIE manual. Last updated September 2017 ( ) Page | 2 CONSIDERATIONS FOR WINDOWS USERS DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION (DEP) If GENIE attempts to open and immediately quits, you will need to create a Data Execution Prevention exception. Please follow the steps below: 1. Open the Start menu and right click on Computer. Select Properties. 2. In the sidebar on the left, click on Advanced System Settings.
4 3. In the window that opens, under Performance, click the Settings button. 4. Go to the Data Execution Prevention tab. 5. If not already selected, click the second radio box: 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select'. 6. Click Add. 7. Navigate to C:\ GENIE \ CLIENT and select GENIE Click Open. 8. Click Apply. 9. Apply/OK out of the other two windows. 10. Retry opening GENIE CLIENT . GHOSTSCRIPT PDFs can be viewed on Windows machines with the aid of a freeware program called GPL Ghostscript. To install Ghostscript: 1. Download and run the installer found at this location. 2. Complete the installation, leaving the destination folder as the default. 3. Open GENIE and navigate to Special > ImagePro Control, then click the Where is Ghostscript button at the bottom of the window. 4. Navigate to C:\Program Files\gs\ \bin\ and open the file ('xx' is the Ghostscript version).
5 5. Quit and restart GENIE . QUICKTIME QuickTime, specifically a plug-in called QPx, is used by GENIE to display and attach images, and to display some graphical components. GENIE works best with version of QuickTime. 1. Download and run the installer found at this location. 2. Complete the installation, leaving the destination folder as the default. 3. Quit and restart GENIE . CONSIDERATIONS FOR MAC USERS If your Mac operating system version is OS X ( Mavericks ) or above, you will need to disable App Nap for all GENIE applications. Browse to the GENIE folder on this computer (Macintosh HD:Applications: GENIE by default), right click on the GENIE CLIENT application and select Get Info. Tick the Prevent App Nap checkbox, close this window, and restart the computer. Last updated September 2017 ( ) Page | 3 This guide is not designed to replace formal user training.

If these items are not relevant to your usage on this machine, you will not need to follow these steps. MEDICARE ONLINE If you would like to do online claiming (including online patient verifications), or access the PCEHR on this computer, HIC Online must be installed. From the appointment book, navigate to Special > Software Updates and tick the box to the left of HIC Online. Click Install 1 Item and allow the installation to complete, proceeding through any prompts. If you are using a Macintosh computer, you will also be prompted for the administrator details.
7 OFFSITE LOGGING If you plan to use a laptop for offsite logging, GENIE Solo must also be installed. Rerun the installer as per the GENIE CLIENT Installation instructions, however, rather than electing to install GENIE CLIENT , expand out the Full Installation option and tick only Solo Application.
