Soak: Use an enzymatic cleaner soak (follow manufacturers instructions carefully) or a solution of distilled (demineralised) water and neutral pH (7) detergent. Instrument should be fully immersed for at least 10 minutes.

3 DO NOT let sharps (scissors, knives, etc) touch each other and also be sure dissimilar metal Instruments are separated. Rinse Instruments under running water to remove Ultrasonic Cleaning: This is widely recognised as being the most effective method of cleaning Instruments . However, extreme care must be taken when using this method to prevent damage being caused to Instruments . ALWAYS use distilled (demineralised) water. Process Instruments as per the manufacturers recommended cleaning cycle NEVER LONGER. Upon completion of the cycle, remove Instruments IMMEDIATELY and rinse. CHECK that your selected detergent can be safely used with your ultrasonic cleaner. Sharps blades MUST NOT be touching other Instruments to prevent possible surface damage.

4 All Instruments with hinges, box locks, ratchets, etc MUST BE processed in an open position. 3. Automatic Washer Sterilisers: follow manufacturuers recommendations but ensure Instruments are lubricated after the last rinse cycle and before the sterilisation process. CAUTION: Needle holders and forceps may crack if washed/sterilised with ratchet in closed Manual Cleaning: Observe the following:a. Use a stiff nylon brush. Do not use steel wool or wire Use only neutral pH (7) detergents, and Brush delicate Instruments carefully and separate them from general Ensure that instrument surfaces are visibly clean and free from stains and debris. Inspect all Instruments for proper function and good After scrubbing, rinse Instruments thoroughly under running water.

5 While rinsing, open and close scissors, haemostats, needle holders and other hinged Instruments to make sure the hinge areas are rinsed out After Cleaning: Separate all dissimilar metals prior to sterilisation. Allow Instruments to air-dry. If Instruments are to be stored prior to sterilisation ensure that they are stored in a clean and dry Special Note for Tungsten Carbide Instruments : Instruments that contain tungsten carbide (TC) can be easily identified by their distinctive gold coloured handles. DO NOT clean TC Instruments in ultrasonic cleaners the vibrations will damage the weld between the TC and the stainless steel. DO NOT use solutions that contain benzyl ammonium chloride (BAC) to clean TC Instruments .

6 The BAC will soften and destroy the TC inserts. Use detergents and lubricants that are pH neutral (7) only. High pH will break down the carbide and it will deteriorate prematurely. Low pH will begin to break down the weld material that adheres the TC to the stainless steel and the carbide will lose NOTICEC aring for your Instruments by following the manufacturer s cleaning, maintenance, and sterilisation guidelines will ensure trouble-free functionality and increase the lifespan of your Instruments .
