1 intelliglobe Pen Update Instructions Suggested minimum requirements for updating the Intellipen for the intelliglobe are: Hardware requirements: - Computer hosting USB or newer connectivity. - A male Mini-B to Male A USB cable, included with intelliglobe . - Intellipen . - 500 MB of HD disk free space, in order to Update pen drive. Operating System requirements: - Any version of Windows 2000 or newer (XP, Vista, Win7) with current service packs applied. - Mac OS X or newer with current services packs applied - Any BSD, Linux, Solaris and/or UNIX operating system that supports USB device discovery, web browsing and read/write for FAT32 file system.
2 Recommended software: - Adobe Acrobat PDF for viewing PDF Instructions . - A file Download manager and/or accelerator that allows for resumption of downloads. Typically the Update file can be in excess of 150 MB. If you where to lose your internet connection while downloading you may be required to restart the download from scratch when not using a download manager and/or accelerator. Please know some newer Internet Browsers allow for resuming of downloads that have been stopped mid-way thru the download process. Overview: The intelliglobe Pen is a simple USB device, with either 512MB or 1GB of Flash memory. On this USB Flash memory is a file named: or (Generation 2 pens), that can be updated when needed.
3 Overview of the process to Update Intellipen is as follows: 1) Download the Update archive for the Intellipen . (Check if you have generation 2 pen or prior version) 2) Connect Intellipen to your computer via USB cable provided with the intelliglobe . 3) Power ON Intellipen 4) The Intellipen USB flash drive will be auto-discovered by your computer and will be made available for use. 5) Extract the or (Generation 2 pens) file from the downloaded Update archive in step 1 to your local computer s hard drive. 6) Copy the or (Generation 2 pens) file that you extracted in step 5 to the Intellipen USB flash memory. Upon completion of the download it is suggested that you extract the or file to your local hard drive and then copy the extracted or file to the Intellipen USB Flash device.
4 As compared to extracting the or directly to the Intellipen USB flash device from the Update archive you downloaded in step 1. Detailed Instructions specific to Windows OS: The Intellipen for the intelliglobe contains a simple USB device, with 512MB or 1GB of Flash memory that allows for the Update of a file named or (Generation 2). By updating the file or on your Intellipen you are able to take advantage of additional educational material and political updates specific to changes in one or more countries. 1) Download intelliglobe Update : a) Navigate to the intelliglobe website: b) Select Update Pen to navigate to available Update files.
5 C) From this website you are able to view the available updates for downloading to your intelliglobe Pen. d) Select the appropriate file you wish to Update to your pen. Check if you have pen that says Generation 2 in the middle of pen, below logo. If you don t have Generation 2 pen, select any Update version (Intermediate or Advanced) that does not have Generation 2 in file name. If you have Generation 2 pen, select Intermediate or Advanced file that has Generation 2 in its name and download. You will be asked to save this file, be sure you note the save location of the Update file for future instruction. In this example we will save to the Windows Desktop.
6 Language abbreviations used in file names are: EN-English language FR-French language DE-German language ES-Spanish language RU-Russian language 2) Connect intelliglobe Pen to computer via USB cable (Type A Male to Mini B Male) a) This requires cable type: A Male to Mini B Male USB cable provided with purchase of intelliglobe . b) Next, we will attach the intelliglobe Pen to the Mini USB cable and then to the computers USB s port. c) Power on the intelliglobe pen drive only after cable is connected to your computer. 3) Let the computer auto-discover the intelliglobe Pen s USB flash memory. Please make note of the Drive letter assigned to the intelliglobe Pen device, as we will need this in step 6d.
7 4) If in the event during the auto-discovery of the Intellipen you were NOT able to determine the drive letter assigned to the Intellipen USB flash device, follow the below steps 4a-4e. Otherwise continue to Step 5. a) To determine the drive letter assigned to the Intellipen USB flash drive we will open My Computer. b) Be sure the Intellipen is Turned ON. c) From the Windows Start Menu, select RUN. d) Type in three dots (periods) in a row .. within the Run window and then select OK e) The My Computer window will display. You will notice that you should have a n ew device in Removable Storage section of My Computer.
8 If you have one or more removable devices you can determine that the device containing or file as the storage device specific to the Intellipen USB device. f) Take note of the Disk drive letter for the Intellipen USB Device. This example shows disk letter of F: for the Intellipen USB device. 5) Once the Update archive completes downloading from step 1a-1d, we will extract the or file from this download. Your method for extracting the file may vary and depends on any 3rd party archive tools you may have installed on your computer (WinZip, WinRAR, 7-Zip, ). a) Locate the archive file downloaded in steps 1a-1d. In this example we downloaded to the Windows Desktop.
9 B) Right mouse click on the file and choose Explore. c) Windows explorer will open the archive. Select File, Extract d) The Extraction Wizard will step you thru the process of extracting or from the archive. i. Next, ii. Select the Browse button to set the destination for extracted file. iii. Select the Desktop for the destination and OK to continue iv. Select Next, v. Be sure Show Extracted Files is check and click Finish. Continue to step 6. Generation 2 pens 6) Once the extraction has completed, a new window opened showing the desktop containing the or file we extracted in step 5d. We will now need to copy this file to the Intellipen flash USB drive device.
10 E) Locate and select the or file from your desktop. f) Right mouse click on the file and choose Copy. g) Navigate to the Intellipen USB flash drive. Select My Computer on the left side of the Explorer window. h) Locate the Removable device we identified as the Intellipen USB flash drive in steps 3 and 4. i) Double click on the Intellipen USB flash drive to open its contents. j) You should see an existing file or that we will need to replace. k) Select EDIT, PASTE from the menu to copy the or file from the desktop to your Intellipen . l) You may be prompted to replace the existing file named or Select YES to replace.
