Method OF measurement OF building AhD civil , EbGGINEERlNG WORKS PART V FORMWORK ( Third Revision ) 0. FOREWORD This Indian Standard .( Part V ) (.Third Revision ) was aclopted by the Indian Standards Institution on 25 October 1<82, after draft finalized by the Metl-od of measurement of Works of civil engineering ( Each&&g River Valley Projects ) Sectional Committee had been approved by the civil engineering Divisicn Council.

8 measurement occupies a very important place in the planning and execution of any civil engineering work from the time of first estimates to the final completion and settlement of payments for a project. Methods followed for measurement aie not uniform and considerable differences exist between practices followed by different construction agencies and also between various central and state government depart- ments. While it is recognized that each system of measuren ent ha: to be specifically related to administrative and fir ant ial organizations within a department responsible for the WOI k, a unification of various systems at technical level has been accfptec as \cry de&able, specially as it permits a wider range of operation for civil engineering contraclors and eliminates ambiguities and misunderstandings of various systems followed.

9 Among various civil engineering items, measurement of buildings was th+ first to be taken up for stanc ardization and this stanc ard having provisions relating to building work was first published in 1958 and revised in lS64. Since various trades are not related to one another, the Sect:onal Committee decided. that eat h type of trade as given in IS : 1200-l! 64* be. issued separately as different parts, which will be helpful 10 specific us,ers in various trac es. This part covering formwolk was first isoued in 1972 and now revised so as to keep requirements up to date. * Method of ~&uremt~t of building works (Jirst r~ ). 3 IS : 1200 ( Part V ) - 1982 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a measurement , shall be rounded off in accordance will1 IS : 2-1960*.

10 The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard. 1. SCOPE This standard ( Part V ) ( Third Revision ) covers the Method of measurement of formwork, where it is required to be measured separately. 2. GENERAL RULES Clubbing of Items - Items may be clubbed together provided these are on the basis of the detailed description of items stated in this standard. Booking of Dimsnsions - In booking dimenGons, the order shall be consistent an-1 generally in the sequence of length, breadth or width and height or depth of thickness. Description of Items - The description of each item shall, unless stated otherwise, be held to i+clude where necessary, conveyance and delivery, handling, loa ding, unloading, storing, fabrication, hoistin?
