Lk 5:1-11 Prayer for Vocations by Pope Francis God our Father, You made each of us to use our gifts in the Body of Christ. We ask that You inspire young people whom You call to priesthood and consecrated life to courageously follow your will. Send workers into your great harvest so that the Gospel is preached, the poor are served with love, the suffering are comforted, and your people are strengthened by the sacraments. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen Saints Peter and Paul Church JANUARY 30, 2022 3 I write to you with great joy as I prepare to depart on my sabbatical.

Priests in the Diocese of Joliet are permitted to take a sabbatical after 15 years of ministry; I am approaching 22 years of ministry in June, so I am very grateful to inally have this opportunity. Bishop Hicks has appointed Fr. John McGeean to serve as Temporary Administrator in my absence from the Parish. Fr. McGeean is a most appropriate choice; he is beloved by the community and staff, he has the respect of the Parochial Vicars, and he knows the community so very well. My sabbatical will include a month in Tanzania, where I will have the opportunity to be present on February 7th when Bishop John Ndimbo (Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Njombe) blesses the new outpatient clinic associated with the INUKA Rehabilitation Hospital (and funded by the generosity of many SSPP parishioners).

During my time in Tanzania, I will be volunteering in the INUKA Hospital, and joining Fr. Nestor for the celebration of Mass in the Out Churches associated with his Parish. Upon my return from Tanzania, I will make a 30-day silent retreat on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius at a Marian Retreat House in Florida. Finally, I will have some down time for traveling and connecting with family and friends. I will keep the SSPP community in my prayers, and ask that you hold me in your prayers as well. I will return to Saints Peter and Paul on June 1st.

Staf ing Updates Meg Salzman has joined the Parish Staff; she takes over many of the responsibilities previously ful illed by Cindy Kennedy, who moved to the Sacred Music Department when Pam Vose retired. Beginning in June, 2000, I had the good fortune of working with Meg as a newly ordained priest at Immaculate Conception Parish in Elmhurst. It is a real pleasure to have the opportunity to know Meg s service and devotion once again. Following 12 years of extraordinary service, Tom Boler will retire as Finance Manager on February 4th.

Tom has been invaluable in assisting parish and school staff, Administration Commission, Parish Council, School Board, and Advancement Board in being a good and faithful steward of the resources entrusted to the Parish by our community. Tom has done this with grace, and an unwavering commitment to serve because of his love for the Church. After a lengthy search for Tom s successor, Mark Cummings joined the Parish as Finance Manager on November 5th. Mark has an extensive background in both legal and inancial matters.
