All rights reserved. This document provides information regarding the 2022 IEA Energy prices package. The Energy prices package is the IEA global prices Database which covers data for end-use prices for different energy products and across sectors for 135 countries in the world.

3 The Energy Prices package is composed by two main databases: World energy prices (WEP) Database which covers 135 countries in the world Energy prices and taxes for OECD countries (EPT) Database which focuses on data for OECD countries, with details about the end-use prices taxation breakdown. Please refer to this document for the assumptions used for this package. Changes from last edition Light update In an effort to enhance timeliness, the IEA is glad to release a January light update of this annual Database , integrating data from the latest quarterly OECD release and giving a preview of the full May relase with updated data for key countries. The full version is set to be released in May 2022 and other light updates are planned throughout the year. Time granularity The IEA is glad to note that the 2022 edition of the Energy Prices package consolidated the enhanced granularity from the previous edition , covering weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly data.

6 Geographical coverage The 2022 edition of the Energy Prices package covers 135 countries in the world. Note that the work on data for 9 countries from Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Republic of Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan) has been made possible with the financial assistance of the european Union, as part of the EU4 Energy project ( ). Taxation The IEA is glad to note that the 2022 edition includes an additional data file on taxation up to 2020, covering 7 categories of taxes across sectors and products for 57 countries, of which 22 non-OECD, depending on availability. The file contains also regulation data for gasoline, automotive diesel, LPG and electricity. These data are derived from research and in some instances may differ from data on total taxation submitted by national administrations and published within the EPT Database .

Revisions World energy prices Prices may slightly differ compared with previous editions due to: revisions of the primary data by relevant agencies (prices and economic indicators); source changes; or methodological changes. Energy prices and taxes for OECD countries Revisions for the latest publication of OECD Energy Prices and Taxes quarterly product: Prices and taxes for Natural Gas for Electricity Generation in Austria from 1Q2019 onwards were revised. Prices and taxes for Natural Gas for Industry in Austria from 1Q2021 onwards were revised. Prices and taxes for Natural Gas for Industry, in Colombia for 2Q2021 were revised. Prices and taxes for Steam Coal for Industry and Electricity Generation in Finland for 4Q2020 onwards were revised. Prices and taxes for LSFO for Industry in Italy for 2Q2020 onwards were revised.

Database structure The Energy Prices package is composed by two main databases; Energy prices package Name of the Database World energy prices (WEP) Energy prices and taxes for OECD countries (EPT) Type of data End-use prices End-use prices and taxation breakdown Time granularity Weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly depending on the availability Quarterly, yearly Coverage Global, 135 countries currently covered OECD countries Notes End-use prices for industrial, commercial and electricity generation sectors include VAT End-use prices for industrial and electricity generation sectors exclude VAT The overall methodology and assumptions apply to both databases with minor differences.

9 Please note that data included in the Energy prices and taxes Database for industry and electricity generation sector are reported as VAT exempt because for the final users VAT is refunded. On the contrast in the World energy price Database data include VAT also for those sectors to guarantee international comparability. Refer to this document to understand the differences in the definitions. In each section you will find the applicability of the definition to the two databases or to a specific dataset. Please note that all yearly prices included in Energy prices and taxes for OECD countries are not necessarily present in the World Energy Database Database . For complete details on data availability by country, product, sector and year, please refer to the accompanying Excel files. The EPT Database covers all the OECD countries, except for Costa Rica which joined the OECD in May 2021.

World energy prices (WEP) Database The World energy prices Database includes annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly for 135 countries and regional aggregates. The Database includes the following files in two formats (IVT and TXT): IEA Energy Prices Transport Fuels End-use energy prices for transport fuels in national currencies and US dollars It comprises four files for the four time granularities available: weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly Products included: Regular motor gasoline; Mid-grade motor gasoline; High-grade motor gasoline; Automotive Diesel. Units: national currency/l; USD/l, USD (PPP)/l; 2015 USD/l; 2015 USD (PPP)/l). IEA Energy Prices Transport Fuels - Subnational End-use energy prices for transport fuels in national currencies and US dollars for selected subnational regions Products included: Regular motor gasoline, Mid-grade motor gasoline, High-grade motor gasoline, Automotive Diesel.
