1 ADOPTED: 9-1-92 AMENDED: 3-2-93, 2-26-04, 8-21-12, 10-5-16,10-23-17 SOCORRO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Department of Human Resources JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: CNS Certified Kitchen/Refrigeration Technician Salary Block: 407 Reports To: Director of Child Nutrition Services Terms of Employment: 239 Days Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the kitchen and refrigeration technician for the child and nutrition services department. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Associates degree in refrigeration and air conditioning or five (5) years experience in commercial refrigeration and kitchen equipment repair to include verifiable experience in the areas of refrigeration, electrical, electronics, pc control boards, ignition modules, industrial motors and motor controls, plumbing and trouble-shooting; Valid Texas Driver s License; CFC Universal Certification.

2 Special Knowledge/Skills: Physically able to lift 20-100 pounds; Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with district employees. Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Provides maintenance, repairs and replacement of all school district commercial kitchen equipment to include: walk-in coolers and freezers, convection and conventional ovens, tilt skillets, milk coolers, mixers, food cutters, slicers, ice machines, industrial motors and motor controls for exhaust hoods, repairs on all electronics controls and any other, as required. 2. Operates acetylene torches and heating iron for stainless steel repairs. 3. Installs and modifies walk-in coolers and freezers to include: inside cooling units, outside condensing units, controls and refrigeration piping. 4. Gives immediate attention to emergency repairs of equipment which jeopardize the food service operation. 5. Notifies the Commercial Kitchen Equipment Technician Supervisor, Director of Child Nutrition Services or other designated administrator of emergencies.

3 6. Develops and follows plan for preventative maintenance to food service equipment. 7. Coordinates with office personnel to arrange for contractors which may be needed. 8. Monitors work done by contractors to insure work is done properly and that the District s interests are given top priority. 9. Works cooperatively and professionally with cafeteria managers, building administrators and district crafts people. 10. Follows the district s procurement procedures and standards when obtaining needed parts or contracted repair service. 11. Recommends the need for replacement or new equipment. 12. Assumes responsibility for the safe driving and preventative maintenance of a district vehicle, vehicle inventory, supplies, and record keeping necessary to satisfactorily complete an assigned task. 13. 4 Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies. 15. Demonstrates ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations. 16. Performs any other duties assigned by the appropriate supervisor. 17. Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, community members and any other stakeholders of the district. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Mental Demands: Understands verbal instructions, and is able to read; maintains emotional control under stress. Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual standing, walking, pushing, and pulling; frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (ladder), moderate lifting and carrying. Moderate exposure to extreme hot and/or cold temperatures.
