Many Vacation Bible Schools today have digressed from focusing on Bible study. Bible study had its beginning at the directive of God. God and Moses, at God s commands, wrote scripture for Israel to have and they began studying and memorizing it at the directive of God (Deuteronomy 6:6-9). In the New Testament, the Christian is directed to Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).

Joseph’s brothers were envious because he was the favorite. They sold Joseph into slavery, slavery, slavery. They sold Joseph into slavery and deceived their father.

2 Family Bible Study Series is designed as a five lesson series to involve the entire Family in the study of the Bible . The publishers of the Family Bible Study Series ( Family Bible Publications ) encourage elders and those who are responsible for curriculum to return the focus of classes to Bible study and to return the focus of devotional periods to worshiping God. May all be done decently and in order and may the glory be given to God. Cut a piece of brown construction paper (or cardstock) into rectangles about 4 x 1 . Cut one rectangle for each student. Glue these onto the middle of page 4 of the booklet (put glue only along the sides and bottom).

7 These are the songbook racks. 10. Assemble the Review Booklet (SP-J-Booklet-3-a through c; see instructions on page 1). Welcome Time Welcome each child warmly and greet them by name. If students are in the room before time to begin class, let them cooperate to put the ten visual aid pictures from lessons 1 and 2 in correct chronological order. Talk with the students about the importance of God s word and their obedience. Ask each child to tell of an action they did today which was an action of obedience to one of their parents. Prayer Lead the class in prayer as class begins asking God for help to do what is right and help to say no to doing what is wrong.

8 Thank God for each child by name. 19 Memory Work Repeat Acts 7:9 with the students three times aloud. And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold JOSEPH into Egypt: but God was with him. If you wish, use the memory verse path as described in Lesson 1. Preparation for the Bible Lesson Help the students find the book of Genesis in their Bible . Ask the students the following background review questions: 1. Which book of the Bible is Genesis? (the first) 2. Is the book of Genesis found in the Old Testament or the New Testament of the Bible ? (Old Testament) 3. How many sons did Jacob have? (twelve) 4. Who was the favorite son of Jacob? ( JOSEPH ) 5. What did JOSEPH s brothers do to him in our last lesson?

9 ( sold him) Bible Lesson Tell the lesson using the visual aid pictures. Have your Bible laid open before you to stress to the students that the story is from the Bible . Use your own words to tell the lesson. The following text is an example. JOSEPH was taken to Egypt to be a servant in the household of Potiphar [show J3-1 and J3-2]. Potiphar was the captain of the guard for Pharaoh. Because JOSEPH obeyed God and trusted God, God blessed JOSEPH . Potiphar noticed that JOSEPH was blessed by God, so Potiphar put JOSEPH in charge of his house and all his stuff [show J3-3]. JOSEPH was a hard worker. JOSEPH worked faithfully to serve both God and Potiphar [show J3-4].

10 Potiphar s wife decided that she did not want to keep her marriage promises to Potiphar any longer. Potiphar s wife wanted to act like JOSEPH was her husband. This was NOT pleasing to God. JOSEPH did not want Potiphar s wife to break her marriage promises, and JOSEPH did not want to sin against God. On many occasions, JOSEPH told Potiphar s wife that he would not act in this sinful way. Sin is doing anything that disobeys God. When someone encourages another to sin, they are tempting them to sin. JOSEPH always said NO to the temptation to sin. One day Potiphar s wife again tempted JOSEPH to act as if he were her husband. This time she grabbed his coat.
