City of Houston building permits totaled $ million in September 18, up percent from $ million in September 17, according to the latest data released by the city s Public Works Department. Through September of this year, city building permits totaled $ billion, up percent from $ billion over the same period in 17. YTD nonresidential construction slipped percent, from $ billion in 17 to $ billion in 18.
2 YTD residential construction increased percent, from $ billion in 17 to $ billion in 18. For the 12 months ending September 18, city permits totaled $ billion, up percent from $ billion in the 12 months ending September 17. Commercial permit values fell percent to $ billion. The drop in commercial construction reflects the slowdown in office construction. Residential permit values rose percent to $ billion. The jump reflects an increase in multifamily construction and repair work due to Hurricane Harvey.
