Kainani Kahaunaele Monday, January 31 at 7:30 pm Kainani Kahaunaele has been a force in Hawaiian music for the last two decades. She garnered multiple awards for her albums Na u Oe (2003) and hai Ula (2010). Most recently at the 2021 N H k Hanohano Awards she won a total of seven trophies, including album of the year, for her most recent release Waipunalei. Not only has she enjoyed success as a solo recording artist, but her gift for haku mele (Hawaiian composition) has attracted some of hawai i's most renowned artists including Weldon Kekauoha, Aaron Sal , N . Leo, Lehua Kalima & Shawn Pimental, and Kapono N ili ili to record her songs. When she is not performing or collaborating with the many talented musicians that help bring her mele to life, she teaches at the Ka Haka Ula O Ke elik lani college of Hawaiian Language and Literature at the university of hawai i at Hilo.

Fans of her music will immediately recognize the many musical inspirations she draws from, including: jazz, contemporary and R&B, but her commitment to perpetuating the Hawaiian language and haku mele is at the core of everything she does. To me the language is primary. The poetry is primary. When that is solid any kind of music can accompany [it].. 3. SUNDAY MONDAY TUESDAY.
