5 WIC-I-2018-07 Date April 23, 2018 Page 3 of 5 2018 Nutrition Services Plan (NSP) Reminder Due on April 30, 2018 is everyone s NSP reports on Coffective and Division of Responsibility (if a LA used DOR). The report should include whether staff completed the online training, the three Coffective strategies selected, progress on Coffective during the first quarter (1/1/18 3/30/18), and a short-term evaluation of the implementation of one step. For the DOR part of the report submit the date when staff training on DOR was completed, your finalized list of planned activities, a timeline and staff assignments for these activities, and progress so far on your Plan. ACTION REQUIRED: Submit these reports no later than 4/30/18 to your SA Nutrition lead. Division of Responsibility Tidbit One goal of parenting is to help children become independent. As a baby gets older, we know that at some point it is all about me do it. We can reassure parents that this is normal and instead of finding it frustrating, try to let their little one do as much as they can by themselves.

6 Eating is a part of this. At about 8 12 months (depending on the individual child s development), encourage parents to let the child feed herself. Suggest to parents that they can cut foods in tiny pieces and let the child feed herself with her fingers. Then as the child is more able to hold onto objects, introduce a spoon. As the child progresses, parents need to remember that even little ones need structure. A one year old can learn to wait a bit to eat so they can join in with family meals. But don t wait too long or let her get too hungry. This is when sit-down snacks come in. Encourage parents to have regular, planned snacks between meals, at the table. And reassure parents that when their child goes from being a happy eater to being a picky eater, that this is normal. This is being a toddler! ACTION REQUIRED: Share with appropriate staff. Save the Date, June 21, 2018, for a webinar for Local Agencies about the 2019 Nutrition Services Plan Yes, you read correctly, 2019 NSP.

7 The SA will be offering a webinar for LAs with some INFORMATION and tips for writing your 2019 NSP. It is optional and will be at 9 am on June 21, 2018. For those who cannot attend, the webinar will be recorded and available on our website sometime after the webinar. More INFORMATION will be coming. ACTION REQUIRED: Share with all staff who will be involved with writing your 2019 NSP. If you use a consultant RD on a part-time basis, please be sure that person receives this too. Newly Redesigned WIC Works Resource System Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) is excited to announce that the newly redesigned WIC Works Resource System is now available!
