Transcription of Lake Macquarie Stream Mapping - CSS
1 Example of web-based Mapping interface developed for lake Macquarie Stream and Catchment Mapping Project lake Macquarie Stream and Catchment Mapping CLIENT: lake Macquarie City Council CONTACT: On Request CSS was engaged by lake Macquarie City Council to map all natural streams and catchment boundaries extending across all of the lake Macquarie Council Local Government Area. The project was completed using a detailed 2 metre DEM in conjunction with our CatchmentSIM software. The DEM was developed using a range of spatial and GIS data including LiDAR, 2 metre contours, 10 metre contours and existing watercourse information.
2 The resultant streams and catchment boundaries were exported in a range of GIS formats including MapInfo and ArcGIS for inclusion in Council's GIS system. Metadata was also prepared for each Stream and catchment layer to define data limitations and projection information. The catchment and Stream GIS layers were also included in a web-based Mapping page to allow Council staff to review the generated GIS layers without the need for specialist GIS software. Information from each layer ( , Stream length) could be accessed by staff by simply clicking on a particular GIS shape/line within the Mapping window. Various background layers including Landsat images and topographic maps aided in providing a geographic reference to each dataset. Staff could navigate around the map using zoom-in, zoom-out, pan and zoom window shortcuts and can switch GIS and background layers on and off using checkboxes that adjoin each layer name.
3 Shortcuts to print the displayed map and measure distances were also provided. The page can be viewed at the following address.
