You will begin your employment with AWP with attendance at a Trust induction day, followed by a number of mandatory and statutory training events according to your role (see the training matrix for more details). You will then work through the induction checklist with your manager to make sure you have a chance to talk about all that you need to know to help you to feel confident in your new role as quickly as possible. Please let us know when you've completed the checklist. How do I know what training I need to do? The training Matrix + training Pathways We all have a responsibility to make sure we are providing safe, as well as high quality services. To find out which courses are essential for you in your role, please look at the most recent training matrix, which is available on Ourspace.

3 The training matrix also shows how frequently refreshers are required. Please make sure you stay up to date with your mandatory and statutory training . We will do our best to remind you of courses you need to do, and reports of training are made available to managers and directors on a regular basis. Once you have completed mandatory and statutory training you will want to focus on developing the skills and knowledge you need to enable you do your job as well as possible. We are developing a range of training pathways, specific to role, outlining key courses that we recommend. A pathway for bands two and three inpatient staff is shown opposite. 5. 6 If you don't find what you are looking for please let us know. We may be able to help point you in the right direction. 6. How do I find out where and when courses are available? How do I book on a course? Access to e- learning courses and information about dates and venues for face-to-face training is available on the MLE. Many of the courses you need will already be in your learning tree under my learning '. Booking is simple, click on the ^ symbol before each subject title and it will reveal the modules within that subject. Click on the calendar icon to reveal future course dates. If a place is available, click book' to select a date. This will then go to your manager for confirmation. Once confirmed, you will receive an email notification with details of the course booking. If there are no places available, select wait' to put yourself on the waiting list. If you wish to study for a course that is not listed under my learning ', you can search for it in the course search' section.

7 Enter a key word ( fire) in to the search' box and then click the search button. If the course requires manager approval, click on the request' button. If approved, you will receive an email notification and the course will appear in your my learning ' section, where you can then book your place, as above. We know that some of our staff are based on sites without internet access ( prison staff), so we're happy to be flexible about booking phone us if you're not able to access the MLE. If you have any queries just phone the learning & development team, and we'll do our best to help. What about courses not provided by AWP? If you need to apply for funding and/or study time to attend a specialist course or continuing professional development (CPD) opportunity that is not provided through AWP, you will need to make sure you are up to date with your mandatory and statutory training , and that the learning need is identified in your personal development plan.

8 You will then need to apply to the bursary fund, using the process outlined on Ourspace. Please allow sufficient time for your application. You may also apply to the bursary fund to support team based development or learning activities. learning & development training prospectus 2012/13. 7. I don't work for AWP, Can I apply? We are increasing the number of courses that are open to people outside AWP, and have a smaller brochure detailing available courses. Please contact us for further details. What kind of library support is available? You have access to 12 NHS libraries within the AWP area; four of these libraries are managed by the Trust and specialising in mental health resources. In addition to this there is a range of electronic resources, with over 2000 e-journals and more than 500 full-text e-books available online and accessible from work or home. Any of the libraries will be happy to provide help and assistance on a one-to-one basis, or there are search skills courses run throughout the year at locations in Avon and Wiltshire.
