2 Each DETECTOR has an on-boardmicroprocessor that evaluates its PHOTOELECTRIC lightscattering chamber activity and makes an intelligentdecision based on light obscuration history as towhether an alarm condition is detectors are packaged in a patented hous-ing that minimizes the visibility of the air intake louversfrom the normal viewing locations while maintaining ahigh performance SMOKE capture ability. 4 Conventional smokedetectors will typically drift toward being too sensitivedue to the accumulation of dust and dirt. With analogdetection, data from the PHOTOELECTRIC chamber is moni-tored and analyzed at the DETECTOR to provide a continu-ously shifting reference point. Drift Compensation. The data evaluation and its shift-ing reference point provide a software filtering processthat compensates for environmental factors (dust, dirt, etc.) and component aging, establishing an accuratereference for evaluating new activity. With this filtering, the resulting drift compensation provides a significantreduction in the probability of false or nuisance alarmscaused by shifts in sensitivity either up or Test Information.

5 Status information is avail-able by performing the magnetic test and observing thedetector LED pulses. The LED will normally go directlyinto alarm with the magnetic test. If there is an off-nor-mal condition, the LED pulses first to indicate the condi-tion and then goes into ReferenceDetector Locations. Locations should be determinedonly after careful consideration of the physical layoutand contents of the area to be protected. For further detailed installation information, refer toDetectors, Sensors, and Bases Application Manual,Part No. Selection. The standard sensitivity detec-tor, Part No. 430559, is recommended for most applica-tions. When a special application for a reduced sensitiv-ity DETECTOR is required, Part No.
