1 LIST OF THOSE WHO died IN wwii DURING 1940-1945 A letter No. 5259, dated May 27, 1948, from His Excellency the Governor of Curacao was sent to His Excellency the Governor of Aruba to request a thorough investigation and to come up with a list of all THOSE who died in World War II, DURING 1940-1945. A list of 163 was turned in on August 10, 1948, by Mr. Hubregt Danker, Head of Police, Special Services Section of Aruba and the Bevolkingskantoor (Registry Office), Aruba. There was also a list with 53 names but with no further information.

2 I also did a thorough research for more information, like photos of the vessels, the correct names and dates, etc. Additionally, Mr. Boy Antoin, a well-known Writer and Historian in Bonaire will bring me a diskette with interviews, some photos and names in August when he visits me. On a separate attachment are the photos and information. I have received these official lists from Mr. Henk Ooft, Archivist at the Aruba Government s National Archive in Oranjestad, Aruba and translated them into the English language for your convenience.

AGNEW, Harold - born in Scotland on Dec. 24, 1910; British Soldier; died on Dec. 26, 1942, in a military transport accident in Aruba. 3. ALBERTUS, most probably from Bonaire, but no information 4. BERNABELA, Humiliano P. - born in Bonaire on June 22, 1922; Sailor with KNSM; missing on May 6, 1942;, s/s Amazone 5 BOEKHOUDT, Jose Pilatus most probably an Aruban, no further information 6.

4 BOOM, Ulises born in Ciudad Trujillo, Venezuela on Feb. 12, 1907; Carpenter with KNSM; last address Lago Colony, Aruba; missing on May 6, 1942 s/s Amazone. 7. BOROM, Ellsworth, a USAAF Pilot, Second Lieutenant on P-39, crashed into the sea, five miles west of north point of Aruba and was killed on December 21, 1943. He belonged to the 32nd Fighter Squadron, based at Aruba. (The squadron s main base was at Hato, Curacao, but the airplanes were divided between Curacao and Aruba.) 8. BRINKWORTH, William born in Scotland on January 6, 1904; Chief Machinist with Lago Shipping Co.

CAPELLO, Francito L. born in Curacao on October 3, 1900; Sailor with KNSM; missing on May 6, 1942 s/s Amazone. 111. CARDONA, David Gonzalez born in Puerto Rico on February 14, 1925; Puerto Rican soldier; accidentally shot and killed on March 11, 1944.

6 12. CARRASQUILLO, Eddie born in Puerto Rico on October 13, 1922; Puerto Rican soldier; died on February 27, 1944; in a military transport accident in Aruba. 13. CICILIA, Claude Benedicto born in Bonaire on October 28, 1928; Assistant Steward with Lago Shipping Co.; last address 167 Nikiboco, Bonaire; missing on September 18, 1944 s/s Punta Gorda (collision with s/s Ampetco II; caught fire and sank about 5 miles off Cabo San Roman, Venezuela). 14. CHANG, Wong Wai born in China/Aruba on June 15, 1898; Cook with Lago Shipping Co.
