My first newsletter! I wish I had started it years ago. This month we release our first reproduction sampler. I started talking to Theresa Venette from Shakespeare s Peddler a few years ago about getting into reproduction work. She was most helpful and encouraging but I put it off until 2010 when I made my first purchase. I was unprepared for the arrival of the sampler as the entire design was stitched very poorly over one thread. I set the design aside as I knew it would require a lot of time and effort to decide how I wanted to proceed with it.

2 This story will continue in July. My second purchase was the Melicent Turner Sampler. When I first saw the original, I was able to detect the wonderful design hidden amidst the faded silks. On the left and right sides were two adult birds and what appeared to be babies in a nest. It wasn t until I saw it in person that I knew I had been right in my assumption. The original sampler was done is a blue-green, off-white, golden brown and a hickory brown. I said sorry Melicent and changed the color palette to yellow greens and added a berry color to brighten the overall appearance. I stitched the design in Belle Soie from Crescent Colors but have included an overdyed cotton conversion and DMC color-way for you to choose from. 3 The answer is no. I will continue to design ornaments for Just Cross Stitch as long as they ll have me but the series (all 24) will come to an end in December of this year. My friend Vonna Pfeiffer has worked hand-in-hand with me on the series this year and has done an awesome job stitching and finishing them. The 2011 series could not have been done without her! Pine Tree Inn is the sixth ornament in the 2011 series. Vonna finished it in a simple rustic braid trim that is easy enough for most everyone. The ornament and Melicent Turner will be available near the end of the month. For those of you who have wanted more seasonal band samplers like the winter one I did last year, I have news. In a few months we ll release a fall version and in 2012 we ll release the spring and summer. My model stitcher, Rita finished it a few weeks ago and I have to say, I like it even more than the winter one.

9 The colors are me ! WINTER BAND SAMPLER Hoops???Hoops???Hoops???Hoops??? Did you see my blog post of the unfinished Melicent Turner Sampler? I stitched the design using a hoop. A while ago I saw these nicely crafted hoops online that were made by Hardwicke Manor in Germany. They are made with smoothly sanded birch wood and brass fittings. VERY nice. The rounded edges are not leaving hoop marks in my work but I do remove the design every night. For those of you that need a taut work area I recommend these hoops as they come in so many sizes to fit your stitching needs. The largest oval is a bit heavy but used in shorter intervals is great for wide borders! SWEET Little BERRRIES The top row of berries (made longer of course) would make a beautiful band around a woven basket filled with faux strawberries!

10 My MomMy MomMy MomMy Mom My mom, Carol, is turning 80 on July 1st and is hard at work stitching a reproduction sampler we re releasing in 2012. It s hard for me to believe that in just the last year she learned to stitch on linen and is still undertaking such large projects. When I was young she sat in the late evenings with petite point, stitching on fine silk gauze under bright lights. She said she loved the time when my brother and I slipped into bed and she had the rest of the evening to herself. When I had kids of my own I understood exactly what she meant.
