1 LONG POINT REGION CONSERVATION AUTHORITY . MANAGER OF CONSERVATION LAND SERVICES. SUMMARY OF DUTIES. As part of the Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for the management and delivery of all CONSERVATION Land Services. This position is responsible for 5 Campgrounds that include more than 650 campsites, passive-use CONSERVATION Areas, Backus Heritage Village, CONSERVATION Education Centre, Lee Brown Marsh, Central Workshop and the Forestry Division. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES. General Managing overall service delivery including the development of annual work plans for all divisions within CONSERVATION Land Services.
2 Oversees the recruitment, staff development and performance management process of all direct reports and ensure all staff are trained and follow Health & Safety requirements and applicable legislative by-laws and workplace policies and procedures. Work within the annual capital and operating budgets, utilizing department resources to maximize operating revenues. Participate in the development of the annual budgets. Grow revenue and sustain lean operations and maintain a customer driven and service delivery focus Prepare tender documents for purchases of vehicles, equipment and other goods and services for the Department.
3 Prepare and present reports to the Board of Directors with respect to programs and operations. Develop and maintain professional relationships with key staff in municipal and provincial government, associations, service clubs and special interest groups to enhance understanding of LPRCA's roles and responsibilities within the watershed. Perform other related duties to achieve departmental and organizational goals as assigned by the General Manager. CONSERVATION Areas Prepare management and business plans to guide the development and operation of CONSERVATION areas.
4 Identify trends in outdoor recreation and implement strategies and programs designed to meet the demands of the outdoor recreational user. Provide input into an effective marketing strategy for the parks. 2. Oversee all regulatory issues and water systems related to the park operations. Ensure LPRCA properties are protected from illegal activities and trespass. Central Workshop and Equipment and Vehicle Fleet Oversee the maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Prepare and submit licensing paperwork for application of herbicides, hazardous waste materials, etc.
5 Silvicultural Operations Manage public forested lands for economic, recreational and CONSERVATION purposes on a broad landscape level. Manage activities on LPRCA forest tracts within the parameters of the 20-Year Forest Management and Five-Year Operating plans. Oversee the preparation of silvicultural prescriptions/operating plans to be implemented in the field. Ensure eligible lands are submitted for the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program and managed within the guidelines of the Program. Oversee harvesting activities on a sustainable/renewable basis within the approved 20-Year Forest Management Plan, ensuring the sustainability of the timber supply volume.
6 Participate in on-going and new forest/eco-system research projects with participating agencies. QUALIFICATIONS. A college or university accreditation in Parks and Recreation, Public Administration, Natural Resources Management, Forestry and/or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of management experience in a related field Demonstated management and leadership skills including sound judgement, tact and discretion. Success in building teams and developing positive working relationships with senior management, staff in cross-department teams and direct reports.
7 Technical knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations, such as the CONSERVATION Authorities Act, Endangered Species Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Provincial Offences Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Trespass to Property Act, Professional Foresters Act, Pesticide Act, Environmental Protection Act, etc. Must have excellent communication (oral and written) and customer service experience. 3. Must possess strong financial, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Established intermediate skills and experience using PC/laptop equipment and relevant software applications.
8 Able to demonstrate the ability to work with a variety of partners in the successful delivery of programs and services. A valid Class G Ontario Driver's License. Other Qualifications A valid Ontario First Aid and CPR Certificate and WHMIS training. A Provincial Offences Officer designation preferred, however, must be willing to obtain.
