1 Over 200 years ago Horatio Nelson was a very famous person. He was an Admiral in the British Navy. He became famous for winning lots of sea battles that made his country safe from attack. In one battle he was hit by some shot from cannon and lost the sight in his right eye. In another he was hit by a bullet and had to have his right arm amputated. In the Battle of the Nile he defeated the French. In the Battle of Trafalgar he again defeated the French. Unfortunately he was hit by a sniper s bullet and died before the battle ended. He was a given a state funeral and has a column dedicated to him in London, at Trafalgar Square.
