2 LUTFISK DINNERS are now available all year in Minneapolis. I just visited the Upton 43 restaurant at (where else) 43rd and Upton South in Minneapolis and spoke with the owner, Chef Erick Harcey. His restaurant is in the remodeled former Bayer Hardware building and is very attractive. The menu is very interesting with many Swedish items but does not have LUTFISK on it. However, LUTFISK DINNERS are available if they are given 48 hours advance notice: anytime that they are open. This is very good news!Litchfield VFW Post 2818 915 E. First, this is a deli, not a restaurant so it's take home. What is LUTFISK , Italian Style? It is a fish that starts out the same as the dried cod for LUTFISK in the Lofoton Islands of Norway or off the coast of Newfoundland & Labrador, called Baccala. But the Italians have it salted when it is dried so that it doesn't have to be soaked in lye when it is reconstituted.

7 It originated in Italy the same way as in Scandinavia; as a way to preserve food for the winter. And it evolved into a Christmas holiday food there as well. There are many more ways to serve it than LUTFISK and they are not all white (red sauce, garlic, pasta, etc.).
