!DO NOT WORK ON THE WAVEGUIDES WHILE THE POWER IS ON!!DANGEROUS RF POWER LEVELS EXIST ON AND NEAR THE ANTENNA DURINGOPERATION. DO NOT STAND CLOSER THAN 1 METER TO THE ANTENNA WHENTHE TRANSMITTER IS OPERATING. DO NOT TOUCH THE ANTENNA WHILETRANSMITTING. THE RF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION CAN CAUSE SERIOUSBURNS AND 11-5820-1148-13&PWARNINGHIGH VOLTAGEis used in the operation of this equipmentDEATH ON CONTACTmay result if personnel fail to observe safety precautionsNever work on electronic equipment unless there is another person nearby who is familiar with the operation andhazards of the equipment and who is competent in administering first aid. When the technicians are aided by operators, they must be warned about dangerous possible, the power supply to the equipment must be shut off before beginning work on the particular care to ground every capacitor likely to hold a dangerous potential.

When working inside the equipment, after the power has been turned off, always ground every part before touching careful not to contact high-voltage connections or 115 volt ac input connections when installing or operatingthis the nature of the operation permits, keep one hand away from the equipment to reduce the hazard ofcurrent flowing through the : Do not be misled by the term "low voltage." Potentials as low as 50 volts may cause deathunder adverse Artificial Respiration, refer to FM 11-5820-1148-13&PSAFETY SUMMARYThe following general safety precautions are not related to any special procedures and do not appear in this technicalmanual. They are recommended precautions that personnel must understand and apply during many phases of operationand maintenanceWARNINGT richlorotrifluoroethane, Trichloroethane, and similar chemical solvents will no longer be used for ordinary cleaning ofequipment.

These substances threaten public health and the environment by destroying ozone in the earth s upperatmosphere. Suitable nonhazardous cleaning materials will be used instead, such as a clean cloth, water and Oxide is used in this equipment. Beryllium Oxide possesses good thermal conduction properties whilemaintaining electrical insulation. It is used in the form of a washer with some semiconductor devices and is used insidesome semiconductors. It can be handled safely if unbroken and undamaged, but dust from broken, crushed, or scratchedBeryllium Oxide can cause severe illness. Never cut or file Beryllium broken Beryllium Oxide is found, collect all particles carefully, being careful not to touch or breathe it.

Package anddispose of it properly, then wash plated steel parts are used in this equipment to protect steel from corrosion. Occasionally handling or usingequipment or components plated with cadmium is harmless, if hands are washed before eating. However, cadmiumcompounds (and fumes and dust containing them) are toxic. When taken through the mouth, vomiting occurs almostimmediately, preventing fatal poisoning. Breathing cadmium fumes or dust affects the respiratory tract, and can causepulmonary edema and machining, grinding, or drilling cadmium-plated steel without good ventilation. Wear a ventilation hood. Dispose ofdust properly and with care, and wash thoroughly after undertaking all such equipment is not provided with stops.

When removing or replacing a piece of equipment, be prepared topull it completely out of the rack or push it completely into the rack. Failure to do so may cause personnel injury andequipment 11-5820-1148-13&PCAUTIONV olume levels at the headset, handset and/or earphone must be adjusted to the minimum levels required for volume control should be adjusted from the minimum position up to comfortable level. Prolonged excessive volumewill lead to hearing avoid personal injury, observe proper procedures for the handling of equipment Lithium batteries. Improper handlingmay cause fire, explosion, or severe burns. Do not recharge, crush, disassemble, heat the battery above 212 F (100 C),incinerate, or expose the contents to NOT try to neutralize caustic electrolyte with vinegar or any other acidic solutions.

Neutralization will do more harmthan good, as it will trap caustic under the skin, preventing it from coming out. Flush with large amounts of organic batteries or cells are used in this equipment and are potentially hazardous if misused or tampered withbefore, during, or after discharge. Following precautions must be strictly observed to prevent possible injury to personnelor equipment damage:DO NOT heat, incinerate, crush, puncture, disassemble or otherwise mutilate NOT short circuit, recharge, or bypass internal NOT store in equipment during long periods of non-use in excess of 30 of the battery according to local, state, and federal 11-5820-1148-13&PLITHIUM BATTERY EMERGENCY FIRST AID INFORMATIONB attery Type: LS6 BASolvent(electrolyte): Gamma Butyrlactone is of low toxicity.

This solvent can cause some eye and respiratory to the manufacturer, the solvent may be released during venting. Venting is an out-gassing of battery circuit (for more than a few seconds) or overheating the battery usually causes : LIBF4 CONTACTDO THISSkinWash promptly with plenty of immediately with plenty of water and use an emergencyeyes wash, if available. Report to a medical professional the area and get fresh air. Report to a medicalprofessional for according to laboratory testing. However, reportto a medical professional for case of venting, clear the immediate area. Usually, venting will only last for a few DECONTAMINATIONThe use of Decontaminating Solution (DS2) will adversely effect the AN/VRC-834(V) gaskets.

For C/Bdecontamination only Super Tropical Bleach (STB) should be used. Refer to MIL-HDBK-783, Chemical and Biological(CB) Contamination Avoidance and Decontamination for proper use of 11-5820-1148-13&PTechnical ManualHEADQUARTERSDEPARTMENT OF THE ARMYNo. 11-5820-1148-13&PWashington, DC, 1 March 1996 TECHNICAL MANUALOPERATORS, UNIT, DIRECT SUPPORT MAINTENANCE MANUAL (INCLUDING REPAIR PARTS AND SPECIAL TOOLS LIST)FORRADIO SET AN/GRC -240(NSN 5820-01-407-1228) (EIC:NA)REPORTING ERRORS AND RECOMMENDING IMPROVEMENTSYou can improve this MANUAL .
