With a backdrop of signed guernseys of former Marist players who have made it to the AFL, players from Year 7 to Year 12 were presented with their jumpers. Handing the players their jumper before the start of the season is just one way the club reinforces its football traditions. This year s jumper presentation had more significance with Marist celebrating its 50th anniversary year.

The only thing hotter than the weather on the first day of the season was the new Marist jumpers which were unveiled for the first time! It was great to see so many new and returning

Handing the players their jumper before the start of the season is just one way the club reinforces its football traditions. This year s jumper presentation had more significance with Marist celebrating its 50th anniversary year.

2 Waterman returns to MaristWest Coast Eagle Jake Waterman, a former Marist player, returned to his junior club last month to inspire and encourage young players. Jake was the guest speaker at the club s Jumper Presentation, where he told players about the importance of enjoying their football and being people of good character. The 19 year old has had a strong start to the season, and has earned Marist a NAB Club Recognition Award, after being selected as the Round 6 NAB AFL Rising Star nominee. Thanks to Jake s performance, Marist will be awarded an NAB Club Recognition Award pack to the value of $2500, including $1000 cash, Sherrin footballs, carry bags, a coach s board, and an air compressor to help in continuing the development of the club s future stars.

3 Marist congratulates Jake on his success this season, and wishes him all the best in his football endeavours. It was great to see so many new and returning faces. It s always special to see former Marist players returning with their sons and daughters. An example of this is Kim O Leary who watched his son Patrick take home the Player of the Day award for his team (pictured above).

4 Speaking of returning faces, Jo and Steve from More than Just a Coffee Van and Tony McGrath from Boost Juice are joining us for another season. A big thank you to Pippa Williams for handling over 240 registrations and Adam Raas who spent an enormous amount of time re-branding and updating the manager booklets. Auskick returns to Friday nights on May 11 with our annual gala night. It is always a super night with the stars of Auskick getting a chance to play under lights in front of their family and friends! The 50th football season at Marist kicked off on the 29th April with a full fixture of games on Br Terrence Gleeson oval from to Starting with a Year 7 Derby, right through to the Year 12 game at the end of the day, players enjoyed their football, celebrated milestone games and played the Marist way.

5 Marist derby kicks off the 2018 seasonA hot start to Auskick seasonFantastic weather set the scene for a festive start to the 2018 season which began with jumper presentations to dozens of enthusiastic kids, excited about their first game of the year. Mums and Dads were up early too, getting their Junior footy player ready for Sunday s games with coffees in hand by 8am. Pleasingly, the mechanics of getting the teams prepared with their gear paid off, thanks to our hard working property manager Jarron Maisey and the volunteers on the committee. A big shout out to all the parents who have taken on coaching and manager roles this year, some returning from the previous season.

6 Your efforts ensure that the kids all have an enjoyable time whilst developing many skills in AFL. We hope everyone enjoyed the first game of the season and everything went well for you. Enthusiastic start for Juniors Marist FOOTBALL CLUB NEWS UPDATEMARIST FOOTBALL CLUB NEWS UPDATEU nder stormy skies on Sunday 22nd April, the Year 9 Marist team hosted Bunbury Marist . The visitors have won the last two years and they demonstrated why that s been the case, but it was a good hit out for all players to get ready for the season.

7 The game was played in great spirits and both clubs are hoping to expand the pre-season concept to other age groups at alternating venues next year. Country team plays Marist The Bunbury Marist team and Marist players showed great camaraderie after the 4th May sees the start of another year of Girls Footy. Marist are again fielding a Junior and a Youth team in the Claremont and Northern Districts all girl s comps. The number of girls playing for Marist has risen again this year, with a total of 23 registered Youth girls and 14 Juniors. The Marist girls will again wear footy jumpers emblazoned with the logo for Maddie Riewoldt s Vision; a charity that we at Marist have been a supporter and partner of for the three years that we have run an all-girls programme.

8 We will be announcing some functions and fundraising drives throughout the year in support of MRV and urge all at Marist to support them wherever possible, details are at Mundella is the Major Sponsor of Female Football in WA and they are running a competition to win $5k for clubs who have a girl s footy programme. 9 Competition closes 31st July 2018. Girls footy fires up for 2018 Following an incident involving a dog, the Marist Committee is requesting, that dogs brought to a game are on a leash at all times. This is for the safety of players and spectators. Thank you for your cooperation. 10 Marist FOOTBALL CLUB NEWS UPDATE A word from the PresidentSeason Opener The committee continued to work hard up to the season opener and now with round 1 done and dusted they can all take a breath and focus on footy. The first round went very well on many levels, starting with our Auskick the new jumpers were a standout, and I would personally like to thank our Property Manager Jarron Maisey for all the work he put in to make this happen. Our Juniors all settled into the season with countless volunteers ensuring the smooth running of their games, particularly the transition of our Year 3s from Auskick.
