2 The rest of the steps do not touch. The inter-meshing flow pattern between the steps results in a largenumber of sharp turns for the fluid. This develops a highvelocity head loss ( pressure drop) and therefore areduced velocity. The shape of the plug steps is designedto prevent the deposit and trapping of solids entrained in thefluid stream. Low velocity also ensures longer trim life dueto less Cost Operation and MaintenanceThe relatively short stroke of the Lo-db valve keeps instal-lation and operation costs low by permitting use of standard,pneumatic spring-diaphragm actuators. These atcuators,used with a ratio lever, provide sufficient force to close thevalve at pressure drops up to 6000 psi with the spring to integral bonnets, the deep packing box is the onlyhigh pressure seal in the valve.

3 The oversize stem and plug(1) are welded together to form a sturdy, vibration-proofsubassembly having a high natural frequency. The plugand stem are guided top and bottom for additional removable seat ring (5) is clamped against a shoulderin the valve body by the lower flange. Since the shoulder(6) is near the bottom flange , the long seat ring is free toexpand and contract with changes in fluid between the seat ring and body is prevented witha high pressure O-ring seal (2) for near ambient tempera-ture fluids and the lapped shoulder (6) for high temperatureapplications. 4 Operation is stable becausethe low static unbalanced is achieved by supporting theplug on the lower guide (8), which acts as a piston. Byadmitting a selected intermediate pressure through internalplug porting (4), a balance force exists within the plug whichreduces the unbalance force to a minimum.
