5 Providing reference letter to the agency andensuring availability of an agency the academic counsellor about theagency where internship will be carried (MPCE 015/025/035) is an important component of the MA Psychology programmeof IGNOU. Internship is to be carried out for a minimum period of 240 hours (8 credits) by thelearner depending on his/her specialization. The academic counsellor, with the help of the agencysupervisor where the learner is placed for internship will supervise the learner. Internship willhelp the learner get hands on experience in the area of specialization chosen by objectives of this course are to: provide comprehensive training to learners; help learners develop skills and techniques to provide the needed services to individuals,groups and organizations; develop professional competence amongst the learners.

6 And encourage learners to maintain the highest standards in offering services to individuals,groups and OF ACADEMIC COUNSELLORThe academic counselor is expected to confirm the suitability of the organization/agency wherethe learner has been placed. During the course of the internship, the learner is expected to regularlyinteract and report about the cases taken by him/ her to the academic counselor, who in turn willdiscuss the cases with learner and clarify any doubts in the learner s mind. The report pertainingto the cases is to be corrected by the academic counselor.

7 The academic counsellor is expected toevaluate the learner on the basis of the report written, intervention designed by the learner andthe overall understanding of the cases displayed by the OF AGENCY SUPERVISORThe agency supervisor has to provide the learner with suitable cases that will be handled by thelearner under his/her supervision. To the extent possible the agency supervisor may try to providethe learner with diverse cases. The agency supervisor will evaluate the learner on the basis ofhis/her sincerity and professional competence, on the basis of assessment ( case history taking,Mental Status Examination, Interview, Psychological Testing, etc.)

8 Conducted by the learner,interaction with the patients/clients/employees and overall FOR SELECTION OF AGENCYThe selection of an agency can be made by the learners or academic counselors. If learner selectsthe agency, s/he must inform the academic counselor at the study centre about the organisation/agency. If any agency or setting selected initially does not provide the needed exposure to learners,the same can be given up and another similar agency may be selected in place of it. The intershipis to be carried out in only one selecting organizations for internship, the learners should preferably approach reputed/established organizations in the particular the field of Clinical Psychology , the following organizations may be Psychiatric and Mental Health Private Clinics (psychiatrists!)

10 The following organizations maybe Sector industry with Human Resource Department/Personnel Department with atleast five and Private Banks with Human Resource Department/Personnel and other service industries with Human Resource Department/Personnel Departmentwith at least five FOR LEARNERSL earners/trainees must follow the standards of ethical and professional conduct required ofpsychologists working in different fields. If progress in any of these areas is not satisfactory, thelearner will be advised to improve his/her behavior/performance. Each agency/organization hasits own ethical and professional standards.
