Material Safety data Sheet ChoiceDek Decking and Accessories MSDS No. 0002. DATE OF ISSUE: July 30, 2014. _____. 1. Product and Company Identification Product Name: ChoiceDek Decking and Accessories Wood-Polymer Composite Lumber Product Manufacturer: Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc. Location: 914 North Jefferson Springdale, Arkansas 72764. Postal: Box 1237. Springdale, Arkansas 72765. Phone: 479-756-7400. Fax: 479-756-7410. 2. Composition/Information on Ingredients Product is a mixture of wood dust, carbon black, and zinc borate in a matrix of thermoplastic.

The thermoplastic is used to encapsulate the other ingredients in a matrix. Wood and plastic are obtained from recycling programs and provide both pre-consumer and post-consumer materials. Ingredients considered hazardous to health: Chemical Name Wood Dust CAS No. N/A. Percent in Product 45 to 60%. Chemical Name: Carbon Black CAS No. 1333-86-4. Percent in Product <1%. Chemical Name: Zinc Borate CAS No. 138265-88-0. Percent in Product 1 to 2%. MSDS 0002;. ChoiceDek Decking and Accessories July 30, 2014.

3. Hazards Identification OSHA Hazard Communication Standard: This product may be used in a manner that produces dust including wood dust and particles that may contain carbon black. According to OSHA 29 CFR certain wood fibers and carbon black are considered hazardous in the workplace if airborne concentrations exceed the OSHA or ACGIH exposure limits. Effects of Overexposure: Exposure to certain wood dusts can produce irritation in the eyes, nose, and respiratory tract. Repeated exposures can produce allergic skin and respiratory reactions including asthma and rhinitis.

Emergency Response: Exposure to fire can generate toxic fumes. 4. First Aid Measures Eyes: Flush thoroughly with water. If irritation occurs call a physician. Skin: Wash contact area with soap and water. Inhalation: If respiratory irritation, cough, or wheezing occurs after exposure to dust, discontinue exposure, and seek medical assistance. Ingestion: No adverse effects anticipated by this route of exposure. If ingestion causes discomfort seek medical assistance. 5. Fire Fighting Measures Extinguishing Media: Water, water fog, foam, carbon dioxide or dry chemical on residual fires.

Special Protective Equipment: Fire fighters should use self contained breathing apparatus for fires that are enclosed. Flash Point: >550 F. Fire and Explosion Hazards: The exact nature of decomposition products will depend upon exposure conditions including temperature, availability of oxygen and presence of other materials. Decomposition products can include carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water vapor, methane and other hydrocarbons, and hydrocarbon oxidation products. Fire fighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus if there is a risk of exposure to gaseous products of combustion.

Use water spray, water fog, foam, carbon dioxide or dry chemical powder on residual fires. 2. MSDS 0002;. ChoiceDek Decking and Accessories July 30, 2014. 6. Accidental Release: Notification Procedures: None Spill Procedures: Provide appropriate Safety equipment including eye protection, dust masks, and gloves where sawing. Dust can be swept or vacuumed and disposed as regular solid waste. Environmental Precautions: Not expected to be a problem. 7. Handling and Storage: Handling: ChoiceDek Decking and Accessories is not intended for use in heavy structural applications.

ChoiceDek Decking and Accessories is heavier than similar wood products. Precaution should be taken to properly handle the Material to prevent injury. Storage: Do not store near strong oxidizing agents or combustible Material . Do not burn in fireplace or use as firewood. 8. Exposure Control and Personal Protection: Ventilation: Use in well ventilated area. Respiratory Protection: Approved dust respirators must be used if breathing dust is likely. Eye Protection: Safety glasses with side shields, or goggles should be worn during dusty conditions.

Skin Protection: No special equipment is required. Gloves can be worn to protect hands from normal contact related abrasions. Good personal hygiene, including washing hands after contact, should be followed. OSHA TWA OSHA STEL. Substance Name CAS No. mg/m3 mg/m3. Wood Dust (Hardwood) NA 5 N/E. Carbon Black 1333-86-4 N/E. Physical data : Ambient State: Solid pH: Not Applicable Boiling Point: Not Applicable Flammable: No Combustible: Yes Flame Spread Index 100.

Vapor Pressure: Not Applicable Vapor Density: Not Applicable Solubility in Water: Negligible Specific Gravity .97. Product is a mixture of recycled polyethylene and recycled wood with pigment. Mixture normally contains from 40 to 50% polyethylene with 45 to 60% wood fiber. 10. Stability and Reactivity Stability: Stable Conditions to Avoid: Open flames and excessive heat Materials to Avoid: Strong Oxidizers Combustion Products: Incomplete combustion can produce formaldehyde. Normal combustion forms carbon dioxide, water vapor and may produce carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon oxidation products, depending on temperature and air availability Hazardous Polymerization: Will not occur 11.

Toxicological Information Acute Toxicology Oral Toxicity: Not established Dermal Toxicity: Not established Inhalation Toxicity: Not established 4. MSDS 0002;. ChoiceDek Decking and Accessories July 30, 2014. Chronic Toxicology Based on available evidence, IARC has determined that wood dust is a human carcinogen when inhaled. IARC has also determined that there is sufficient evidence to classify carbon black as a suspected human carcinogen when inhaled based on animal studies. Incorporating wood dust and carbon black into a polymer matrix greatly reduces the identified exposure pathway to these materials.
