Appendix B lists those directives which contain policy that have been superseded by this Manual.
2 Appendix C contains a list of useful abbreviations and acronyms that will enhance the understanding of this Manual. Significant revisions have been made to this Manual, and it should be reviewed in its entirety. 4. Summary of Revision. This revision provides information on the Department of Defense/Marine Corps Inventory Reduction Plan, policy for the materiel obligation validation, stock levels, assignment of safety levels, retention of assets, reparable issue points, clothing, management of part-numbered items, and missing, lost, stolen, or recovered reporting requirements. 5. Recommendation. Recommendations concerning the contents of the INTERMEDIATE-LEVEL SUPPLY management Policy Manual are invited. Such recommendations will be forwarded to the Commandant of the Marine Corps (LPP-2) via the appropriate chain of command.

PURPOSE. To establish SUPPLY policies necessary in the effective control of INTERMEDIATE-LEVEL inventories. 10 To the greatest extent possible, the provisions are to be adhered to until systems are brought into conformity. 0002. LEVELS OF INVENTORY 1. Levels of inventory within the Department of Defense (DoD) are defined as follows: a. Wholesale-Level of Inventory. Inventories, regardless of funding source, over which an inventory manager at the inventory control point has asset knowledge and exercises unrestricted asset control to meet worldwide (DoD/service) inventory management responsibilities. b. Retail-Level of Inventory. Supplies/materiel held below the wholesale level. The retail-level of inventory is further defined as follows: (1) INTERMEDIATE-LEVEL of Inventory. An inventory, regardless of funding source, that is required between the consumer- and wholesale-levels of inventory for support of a defined geographic area or tailored support of specific organizations or activities.
