1 What Parents Should Know About Measures of Academic Progress 2016-2017. Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). Plano ISD uses multiple tests to measure each student's knowledge and skills and to measure student growth over time. The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is a computer adaptive assessment that Measures growth over time in the general domains of mathematics, reading, language usage, and science. Interpreting MAP Scores MAP test performance is described by a number called a RIT score which has a range from 95 300. The scores are not specific to a grade level but are continuous making it possible to use RIT scores to follow a student's educational growth from year to year . The relationship between the MAP assessment and the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) has been analyzed by the Assessment Department. A student's MAP score is associated with the probability of meeting the Level II, Satisfactory Standard on STAAR.

2 The probability ranges below identify a student's chance of meeting the Level II Standard on the STAAR assessment. The purpose of STAAR is to assess a student's mastery of grade level state standards or TEKS. Therefore, a student who meets the Level II Standard on STAAR is sufficiently prepared for the next grade or course. A student who has less than a 50% probability of meeting the Level II standard may require intervention to be sufficiently prepared for the next grade or course. For students in grades K-2, probability ranges identify whether a student has a high probability of success on the grade level TEKS and being sufficiently prepared for the next grade or course. These ranges also identify if a student is on track to have a high probability of success on STAAR in later grades. Score ranges for Reading MAP are the same as those for Language Usage MAP. The same strong relationship between STAAR and Reading MAP exists with STAAR and Language Usage MAP as well.
