2 The MEC for Education in KZN, Mr ES Mchunu and the Premier of the Province of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr ZL Mkhize were present at this high-profile event hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of in the various categories in this Provincial Competition would proceed to compete at the Na-tional Event. A total of 6142 schools and about 10 000 learners from all 12 districts participated in the KZN Philharmonic Or-chestra played to the tune of the soloists and the small en-sembles. The next level of the com-petition will take place at national finals from the 03 to 06 July 2012 at Rhema Church in Randburg . KZN will send 823 learners from 27 schools ac-companied by 52 teachers of the provincial finalists to compete in the national competition. The Com-petition at the National level will take place as fol-lows:Intermediate Phase (Grade 4-6) 03 July 2012 Senior Phase (Grades 7-9) 04 July 2012 FET Band (High Schools) 05-06 July 2012 The soloists and small ensembles will stage a concert on Youth Day 16 June 2012 with the KZN Philharmonic Or-chestra at the Durban City Hall.

3 The Province of KwaZulu-Natal out-shined all other Provinces in the Coun-try at the 2011 national finals. This year 2012 it is anticipated that it will be no different because more work has been done to prepare for the national 2012 Provincial Winners were chosen from schools that did well in their 2011 Matric pass rate scoring over 60%. A team of the trainers will be visiting the schools of the provincial winners to assist and support the winners in get-ting ready for the National Finals.
