1 Memorial Junior high October 2017 Newsletter October 2017 Newsletter Memorial Junior high Principal: Mr. Kaple Assistant Principals: Mrs. Cegelka & Mr. Capretta 1250 Professor Rd. | So. Euclid, Ohio 44124 | (216) 691-2140 Dear Parents, Memorial Junior high had an exciting academic and extra-curricular September. Our students continued to grow in the classroom utilizing technology, conducting labs, building writing skills, and working collaboratively in small groups. With the first grading period ending on October 20th , it is vital that our students stay on top of their academics and continue to monitor their GradeBook online. If you need anything please call or stop by the office. Go Arcs! Mr. Kaple FR OM T HE B OAR D Due to your ability, via Parent Access, to view your son or daughter s updated grades at any time during the school year, the decision has been made to no longer mail home or electronically provide an interim report. Since families are now able to view in real time the daily performance of their child in all their classes, the interim report has become redundant and unnecessary.
2 To remain informed of your child s progress, we strongly suggest you check Parent Access on a daily basis to keep up to date with all assignments and grades. The school will continue to provide report cards, viewable online, for all four grading periods. If you need help registering for Parent Access, please contact your son or daughter s school building for assistance. South Euclid Lyndhurst Schools celebrated its partnership with Legacy Village by holding the First Annual SEL Appreciation Day. Designed to benefit the students of the district, leadership from both SEL Schools and Legacy began planning the event earlier this summer as a day filled with showcasing student accomplishment and successes. PBIS is a system designed to reward and encourage positive behaviors throughout the school year.
4 Our students had a great time participating in multiple activities: DJ, dance, basketball tournaments, dodge ball, football, karaoke, face painting, and an overall celebration to note a successful start to the school year. In addition to school wide events, PBIS also promotes positive behavior through Arc Bucks, a daily reward given to students when they are caught doing the right thing at the right time. Arc Bucks are used for a chance to enter into daily and weekly drawings for prizes. MJH STEP UP T O C WRU On Friday, September 22, 2017, a group of 7th grade girls visited Case Western Reserve University. They were hosted by - Women in Science and Engineering Round Table. During their time at Case, the girls had a chance to talk with female university students who are pursuing degrees focusing on science and/or math, took a tour of the campus and engaged in STEM challenges. SPORT UPDAT ES As we come to the end of fall sports season, it's now time to prepare for winter sports.
5 We're now three weeks away from Boy s Basketball tryouts (October 18-20), wrestling starting on November 10th, and Girls Basketball tryouts in early December. Our perspective winter athletes should be working hard towards finalizing passing grades for the end of first quarter on October 20th; you must have five passing classes in order to be eligible. Ms. Newton runs Homework Club after school on Monday's and Wednesday's. Parents, please begin to complete all paperwork, all athletes in order to tryout or participate must have Final Forms completed, Pay-to-Participate paid ($75), and a physical on file. Any questions please contact the Athletic Dept. at 216-691-2100 or see the link to forms.
