1 Methodmaths Methodmaths is a computer program specifically written to support the Edexcel Linear GCSE Exam your son / daughter will be completing in June 2016. It contains many past papers and GCSE exam style questions for every topic at both Higher and Foundation Tier. It has been designed to help improve independent learning skills and to encourage exam preparation away from the classroom. Access: To access Methodmaths , go to school homepage , scroll to the bottom and click Method Maths. Alternatively enter The Methodmaths homepage looks like How to log in: Centre ID: standish Username: usual pupil username y11bloggsj Password: usual 6 digits 123456 Once logged in, your son / daughter has the choice to work through a full GCSE past paper or to select individual topics to download. GCSE Past Papers: Your son / daughter will access a screen like below. Some past papers will be locked until later in the year. Past papers that are open can be accessed by clicking on the individual question numbers.
2 From above, we can see one pupil has completed June 2012 GCSE paper and scored 81%, grade A* on Paper 1 (Non-calculator paper) and 64%, grade B on Paper 2 (Calculator paper). This gives an overall score of 73%, grade A. The colours indicate the difficulty of the question and show the progress the pupil has made. Individual questions look like Once entered, a correct answer will turn green and the mark is given immediately. The question can be read out by clicking on the speaker icon. Clicking the icon offers hints and some help and pupils can show their own working using . We encourage pupils to show their calculations on a separate piece of paper to save time. Throughout the test, your son / daughter can see their current score, current grade and how many marks they need to get to the next grade. As the past papers are marked immediately by the computer using data linked to an Excel spreadsheet, there may be some slight problems with the validity of the answers.
3 If pupils are convinced they are correct, they are encouraged to check their answer in the relevant GCSE mark scheme or e-mail a screenshot of the question to their teacher who will individually mark it for them. Individual topics: After each assessment your son / daughter will be given a list of topics to look at again. This will either be in their exercise book or in their past paper revision folders. Individual topics can be downloaded by clicking on the icon on the Methodmaths home page. Your son / daughter can download these individual topic areas onto their own computer or own area in school by clicking on the arrow. They will see this message at the top of the They should click OK then save the required file onto their personal area of the computer. They need to leave the file name as it is or it will not save properly. This message will so they click OK. They then should find the saved file which will look like this. The tabs can be clicked to select an individual exam question to answer.
4 Once completed and saved the answers can be uploaded back to Methodmaths by clicking on Browse for file shown below. Once the file is found and selected, Send the file should be clicked. The results will be uploaded onto your son / daughters homepage and will look Ipads: Methodmaths fully works with computers and tablets which have windows installed and Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheets. Past papers only can be completed using Ipads by downloading the free App called Puffin Academy. Once Puffin Academy has downloaded, open the App and search for Methodmaths in the search bar which can be located at the top right hand side of the screen. Select Methodmaths and you should then see a screen that contains a description of Methodmaths . To the right of the Methodmaths icon you should see the option: go to . Tap this and Methodmaths should open inside the Puffin Academy app.
