1 Michigan Department VFW Auxiliary MEMBERSHIP/RECRUITMENT BULLETIN. June/July/August 2018. National Theme: BELIEVE .We Can Do It! Department Theme: United We Stand Remember: All dues collected up to June 30, 2018 still go towards the 2017-2018. Auxiliary year! Your year-end number will be set at midnight of June 30th and that is the number your Auxiliary will have to reach to be 100% for the 2018-2019 Auxiliary year. It is very important that you strive to get all your annual dues members paid by that June 30th date. Otherwise those members will have to rejoin and prove eligibility again. This could cause problems if those members do not have access to the DD214 of the veteran they came in under before.

2 Please try your best to not let this happen. I am very excited for the upcoming year and thank Sandy Medos for the confidence in me to do this chairmanship! Just like the national theme, I BELIEVE we can get 100%. plus 1 this year, with some hard work and dedication to our organization. If we all do what we can from the beginning of the Auxiliary year, to renew our annual members dues, as well as recruit new members, I feel we can accomplish this goal together. Just like the past couple of years, the Circle of Excellence is what we are striving to achieve at every level, and it starts with you. We need all the auxiliaries to do their best to achieve 100% plus 1 so that you not only help your Auxiliary but your District and the Department of Michigan as well.

3 If we all do our best, we can all achieve this goal for this upcoming Auxiliary year. You need to follow your guide sheet so that you can achieve all the program goals. Make sure you form a committee to make it easier on yourself to get these goals accomplished. Send out dues notices, host a recruiting event and have a membership- table at your fundraisers or special events. Attend community functions to get our organizations name out in the community, advertise and promote your events on social media as well as your local newspaper and make sure you REPORT all of the above every time you do something. Do not wait to report these things, and make sure you report every quarter.

4 This is very important. The longevity of our organization depends on membership. The more members we have the stronger our Auxiliary will be in the future. We have been around for over 100. years lets be around for another 100! Throughout the year I will be giving you tips and ideas on how to retain current members as well as recruit new members. This is so important because this is how we grow our organization. Your District President and district chairman can be a reliable source of knowledge and help if you have questions. But I am here to assist you as well. Just reach out to me if you need anything. I will do my best to help you achieve these goals that are expected of you.

5 I will also be talking about the awards you can win and how to go about winning them in the bulletins to come. If you have any questions about these just email me. This is a big chairmanship and a huge responsibility so please do not wait to get started. Send out those 1st dues notices by August. It is very important to get them out as soon as you can so that you can stay on top of the annual members. Remember, if a member doesn't pay by Dec 31, 2018 they will be considered a lapsed member. This means they cannot attend your meetings and will not be able to attend until they pay their dues. If they do not pay by June 30th, 2019 they will no longer be members and will have to fill out a new application and prove their eligibility again.

6 Try and not let this happen to your members. Make phone calls, send out notices, even drop by their homes to see if everything is okay. They may need assistance in paying their dues because of issues they are having. This can be done by using money from your relief fund. If you have any questions regarding how to do this just ask. Again, I am here to help you if you need it, so just reach out and ask for the help! I look forward to a wonderful year. I know we can achieve all the goals that we set out for this year and we CAN achieve 100% plus 1! So, let's go out there and RETAIN OUR. MEMBERS AND RECRUIT NEW ONES!!!
