1 April 17, 2014 Board Meeting Agenda Item # 9 MONTHLY SECURITY REPORT Time Sensitive Consent STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Receive the SECURITY REPORT for the Month of February 2014. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Staff provides the Board with SECURITY activity reports that are updated on a MONTHLY basis. The MONTHLY SECURITY REPORT provides summary information regarding law enforcement and SECURITY related activities and events for the month including: crimes reported; arrests; offenses; incidents; citations issued; as well as emergency and fire response requests. Also provided in these reports are overviews of any special projects/details and Directed Patrol Missions (DPM s) in which the NCTD Transit Enforcement Department is actively involved. There were 45 calls for service generated from the Control Center for law enforcement and fire (EMS) in the month of February 2014 compared to 61 in February 2013. The most common location for public safety response in the month of February was within the COASTER right-of-way, with a total of 18 responses.
2 The contracted NCTD Transit Services Sheriff s Deputy detail performed 87 extra patrol checks on the COASTER, SPRINTER and BREEZE vehicles and transit stations/centers. Transit Services Sheriff s Deputies responded to 28 calls for service that were generated from Station O and had 5 enforcement actions resulting from arrests, citations and warnings. Sheriff s Deputies initiated 13 new crime cases/investigations and followed up on 3 existing case/investigations related to the NCTD system. Deputies made contact with transients/trespassers in the SPRINTER and COASTER ROW and vacated 1 illegal transient encampment. On March 31, 2014, San Diego County Sheriff s Deputies and NCTD Code Enforcement Officers conducted a special DPM of all COASTER stations/ platforms and the COASTER trains providing service to and from Santa Fe Station for the San Diego Padres season opener game with the Los Angeles Dodgers. There were 25 verbal advisements given, 3 field interviews and warnings made, and 1 misdemeanor citation issued.
3 Many positive comments were received regarding the high visibility uniformed presence.
