1 Motivational Interviewing Coding (MITI ) November 28 30, 2012 Sam Houston State University Huntsville, Texas Delivered by Members of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers in Collaboration with the Correctional Management Institute of Texas During this three day training, November 28 - 30, 2012, practitioners will be taught the basic skills of MI Coding using the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) Coding system. These skills can then be used to code sessions for MI skill development and to measure MI consistency. The Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) Coding system is a behavioral Coding system measuring MI beginning proficiency and competency.

2 It can be used for research purposes or as a means of providing structured, formal feedback about ways to improve practice. This instrument is a Coding system which measures an interaction from two perspectives: globally and behaviorally. As agencies, implement MI training and practice and move toward continual improvement with treatment fidelity, they will want to create internal skill development and quality assurance measures to further support best practice among their staff and create improved outcomes. Upon completion of the three day training participants will be offered the opportunity to participate in Inter-rater Reliability (IRR) Groups lead by the course trainers. Prerequisite for Training: Training participants must demonstrate proficiency in Motivational Interviewing practice.

3 To qualify for the MI Coding class applicants must answer the following questions completely. The applications will be received by CMIT and reviewed by the trainers for consideration and selection. Acceptance is not guaranteed. Applications will be accepted on a first come first qualified basis. Payment of $ is due upon notification of acceptance. A maximum of 30 applicants will be accepted.
