The Museums demonstrate a tradition of close reciprocal support between the Ambulance Service and the Community, through the presentation of the story of close community relations, community operations, clinical links, educational links and strong community support that feature in the history of Queensland Ambulance . The exhibits show the progress of Ambulance development, which has taken us from the simple first aid kits, and basic clinical practices of the nineteenth century to the defibrillators and complex clinical practices of the twenty-first century.
2 The Museum shows the transition from the primitive but only method of transport at the time, the hand held stretcher, through the hand-wheeled litter, jingles towing litters, to motorised ambulances. The Museum has several historic Ambulance vehicles to be viewed, including a 1926 Arrol Johnson (Scottish) Ambulance . To improve our collection management activities. 3 There are several old, heavy serge uniforms on display and various badges and insignia covering the entire 114 years of Queensland Ambulance History. The 1926 Arrol Johnson motor vehicle, on display in the Museum , was technically advanced for its time as one of the earliest motor vehicles and ambulances to have factory standard shock absorbers and 4-wheeled mechanical brakes. Carbon dioxide was used in early methods of resuscitation and a sample of the device used to administer the gas is among the items in the QAS Historical Collection.
