1 This Naloxone overview includes a discussion of the relevance of the recent opioid crisis and its relationship to the role of the School nurse . A review of substance misuse/abuse statistics at the national, state and city level are presented. Information is then narrowed to the at-risk School population from a health promotion, disease prevention perspective with recommendations for screening, documentation and follow-up referrals that can be performed in the School setting. Regulations that address overdose prevention are included. A demonstration on the safe administration of Naloxone is provided including a focus on the integration of this process into the School emergency crisis plan.
