Names of God Huddle 3 El Shaddai God Almighty SETTING THE ATMOSPHERE As children arrive, collect the In slips from parents and see which grade they are in for their huddle teams. Remember to check all slips to make sure children are to be in Up & Out this hour. Team Time Each team leader (student leader) should spend time getting a conversation started within the team to find out more about each child. Ask the following questions to help the children begin to think about the Names they have learned thus far. Last week we learned that God is Jehovah, Yahweh Can you tell me what that means? Romans 11:36b) Who remembers Abraham?)

Can anyone tell me about his story? (Have the children share what they remember about Abraham. We will be learning more about him during our Big Group Time.) Opening Prayer Leader prays for the group. LESSON HUDDLE Hey everyone! Welcome to Up and Out! In Up and Out, we look UP to God and OUT to others!! Can you say it with LOOK UP TO GOD, AND OUT TO OTHERS! This week we are going to learn about another name for God. This name is El Shaddai. Can you say it with me? El Shaddai literally means God Almighty. You can also think of it as God is all powerful! There are many times in the Bible where God does some pretty powerful things. He led the Israelites from Egypt with a pillar of wind and a pillar of fire; He also split the Red Sea, creating walls of water so that the Israelites could escape. He used a big fish to save Jonah Huddle Teams 1st & 2nd grade girls 1st & 2nd grade boys 3rd & 4th grade girls 3rd & 4th grade boys and a young boy like you all to feed thousands of people!

But before all of these powerful things happened, God taught us that He is God Almighty through a very faithful man named Abraham. Who can tell me what they know about Abram? Abraham was a very very old was 99 years old and his wife Sarah was 89. Do you know anyone that is that old? They were WAY too old to have God had promised Abraham that he would give him a son (in fact, God said that He would give Abraham many descendants). But Abram and Sarah were so old, how could they have a baby? God spoke to Abram and said, I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly. Genesis 17:1-2. Guess what happened? When Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90, they had a son and named him Isaac. You see, God told Abraham that He is God Almighty and that He is an All Powerful God. And He showed Abraham these things through the birth of Isaac.

Nothing is too hard for our God!! Lesson Wrap Up: This week your mission is to think about some of the most powerful things that you know. Maybe an animal that is powerful or a person you think is really powerful, or you watch a thunderstorm that is powerful. Remember that God is SO MUCH MORE powerful than all of these things. Huddle Up, Pray, & Break CRAFT: Loaves and Fish Craft MATERIALS: Basket, Loaves and Fish Cut-Outs There are many times in the Bible where God shows His power. Another one occurs in Matthew 14:13-21. (Read the story from the Bible). That is such an example of the power that Jesus has. He is God Almighty and NOTHING is too hard for God!! 1. Color and cut out each piece. 2. Glue the fish and loves behind the basket in a random order. 3. Glue the whole thing onto a piece of construction paper or cardstock. 4. Cut out the whole figure. 5.

Have the kids write El Shaddai on the basket. ACTIVITY: Measuring Power MATERIALS: Rulers or tape measures Measuring Paper (half size cardstock) Pencils Have the children pair up (if someone does not have a partner, put them in a group of 3). And pass out the supplies (You should have 1 ruler, sheet and pencil per group). Have the children measure various objects around them and write down the size of each object. Challenge them to find the smallest thing they can measure and the largest thing they can measure. How many different things can they measure in the allotted time. After measuring several things inside, have them go outside to measure additional items. What is the smallest thing you measured? What is the longest thing you measured? Can you measure the distance from here to the star in the universe that's the farthest away? That's right, you can't do it because for you the distance to that star is immeasurable.

We can't measure it. This is like God s power. It's so big and wonderful we can't measure it. But we know it's there because God told us He s God Almighty, and God's power is shown throughout the entire Bible. He is El Shaddai - God Almighty and so powerful that nothing is too hard for Him!!!
