AAP-15(2013) terminology has been coordinated with the NATO Terminology Office (NTO) and formally approved by the Committee for Standardization (CS) Representatives on behalf of the CS. It is therefore NATO Agreed. 3. AAP-15(2013) is effective upon receipt. It supersedes AAP-15(2012) which shall be destroyed in accordance with the local procedure for destruction of documents. The purpose of AAP-15 is twofold: a. to give the full form of the ABBREVIATIONS most commonly found and used in NATO documents and publications; b. to encourage authors to use correct and standardized ABBREVIATIONS and full forms when drafting documents or correspondence.

L AAP-15 poursuit deux objectifs : a. pr senter la forme compl te des abr viations les plus fr quemment rencontr es et utilis es dans les documents et publications de l OTAN ; b. inciter les r dacteurs employer les abr viations et leur forme compl te correctes et normalis es dans leurs documents de travail ou dans leur correspondance. POLICY 2. In accordance with the requirements set out in the NATO Policy for Standardization of Terminology (reference A) and in the Directive on the NATO Terminology Programme (reference B), NATO documents must use NATO agreed terminology. 3. To achieve the NATO Agreed status, AAP-15 terminology is: a. screened by the NATO Standardization Agency ABBREVIATIONS Staff Group (NASG), with the assistance of expert groups where appropriate; b. coordinated at all stages of the screening and agreement process through the NATO Terminology Office (NTO); c.

8 Submitted for formal approval to the national representatives on the Committee for Standardization (CS), which is the NASG s tasking authority (TA) 4. AAP-15 is then promulgated by the Director NSA. POLITIQUE 2. Conform ment aux dispositions tablies dans la Politique OTAN de normalisation de la terminologie (r f rence A) et la Directive sur le Programme OTAN de terminologie (r f rence B), la terminologie utilis e dans les documents de l OTAN doit tre agr e OTAN. 3. Pour obtenir le statut Agr OTAN , la terminologie de l AAP-15 est : a. soumise l examen critique du Groupe ex cutif de l Agence OTAN de normalisation sur les abr viations (NASG), avec le concours de groupes d experts en fonction des besoins ; b. coordonn e, tous les stades du processus d examen critique et d approbation, par le Service de terminologie de l OTAN (NTO) ; c.

9 Soumise l approbation officielle des repr sentants nationaux aupr s du Comit de normalisation (CS), qui est l autorit de tutelle (TA) du NASG. 4. Le directeur de l'AON promulgue ensuite l'AAP-15. AAP-15(2013) -XIV- APPROVAL PROCESS 5. The NASG screens and decides on change proposals on the basis of the principles, rules and criteria laid down in the Directive and the Guidance. 6. Authoritative sources ( TAs, experts, authoritative publications and glossaries) are consulted for content and equivalence. 7. When expert views conflict, and the NASG cannot achieve agreement, contested entries are referred to the NSA Arbitration Ad Hoc Working Group (AHWG). PROCESSUS D APPROBATION 5. En cas de divergence de vues entre experts et lorsque le NASG ne parvient pas obtenir un accord, les articles contest s sont soumis au Groupe de travail ad hoc (GTAH) d arbitrage de l Agence OTAN de normalisation. CONTENT 8. Entries which have been removed will be available for consultation in the NATO Terminology Management System (NTMS) together with other historical data. 9. Users are encouraged to make proposals for those ABBREVIATIONS which they would like to see in AAP-15. SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS FOR AAP-15 10. Proposals for AAP-15 must be made using the Terminology Tracking Form (TTF). An electronic version is available on the NSA s website at PUBLICATION 11.
