2 Within that framework, our faculty, staff, andstudents study a wide variety of ecological systems with emphaseson soil, water, people and social systems, forests, plants, animals, andmicrobes. Much of our research focuses on Natural and social processes,such as habitat fragmentation, regulation, dispersal, disturbance,invasion, bioactivity, and decision-making. We research and work inlocations locally, across the United States, and around the for students interested in careers leading the conservation,protection, and management of Natural and Environmental resourcesor in pursuing advanced education in one of its many disciplinaryareas, the NRES baccalaureate provides a science-based, application-oriented education. The NRES major is unique in its integration of acomprehensive physical, life, and social Sciences background withcoursework providing the management, decision-making, and analyticalknowledge and skills required to solve the world s most in the NRES major begin their studies by taking a set of corecourses that provides the background for more focused substantivestudy at the upper level.

3 The NRES core introduces students to the rangeof physical, life, and social science content most relevant to their futureprofessions and equips them with tools essential for the discovery,analysis, and application of knowledge important for successfulenvironmental management. NRES students then build upon the coreby completing one of four upper-level concentrations. Courses in theconcentrations involve focused attention to the theories, data, andanalytical tools of a particular set of Natural resource and environmentalscience areas, helping students develop the necessary understandingof the complexities underlying Resources management. All students inthe major are required to complete a combination of field courses and atleast one project-oriented capstone the concentrations prepare students for graduate study as well as formultiple career paths throughout the public and private sectors.

4 Becauseof its unique orientation toward integrative application of disciplinaryknowledge, the NRES major prepares students for a wide range ofcareers involving the conservation, protection, and management ofnatural Resources . Many occur within business or government agenciesthat provide services related to Environmental and Natural resourcemanagement. Other careers are found within social, professional, andadvocacy institutions that focus on human impacts and environmentalsustainability. The major also prepares students for teaching, research, orother professional from the NRES major go on to pursue careers in the directionof Environmental education centers; ecological management andrestoration; enforcement of laws and regulations; environmentaladvocacy; Environmental consulting; forest and environmentaleconomics; land use analysis and management; law; local, state, andfederal government; management of parks, forests and rangelands;plant physiology; policy development and implementation; resourceplanning and policy analysis; social and Environmental impact analysis;soil conservation, science, and testing; technical sales; watershedmanagement.
