1 NC(V)QUALIFICATIONABOUT THE COLLEGEC entral Johannesburg Colleges was born in September 2003, following the official declarationof Technical Colleges into Further Education and Training Colleges, by the then Minister of Education, Professor Kader Asmal. This declaration followed because of a national strategy to restructure the educational landscape of South Africa and to provide improved access to amore diverse learner population. It is the ultimate aim to create a FET sector that will directlyimpact on the transformation of the society in terms of relevant education that will upliftthe economy through active entrepreneurial training and the preparation of learners for theworld of , growth and unity are the key concepts behind our corporate brand. The image of theCJC logo reflects a dynamic, UNIFIED and responsive culture. The shield represents our academic traditions and symbolizes protection, strength and stability. The four parts of the flame represents the four merged colleges unified in a single flame of enlightenment andleadership.

Our logo unites the fourcolleges under a single image and lights the dawn to a new promising success, growth,quality, prosperity and CORPORATE IDENTITY1 overview OF THE NC(V) QUALIFICATIONThe new curriculum is offered in the following ten learning areas (sub-fieds):A. UNDER THE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (ET) Electrical Infrastructure Construction Civil Engineering & Building Construction Engineering & Related DesignB. UNDER THE SCHOOL OF ENTERPRISE & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT (EBD) Management Marketing Finance, Economics & Accounting Office AdministrationC. UNDER THE SCHOOL OF HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES Tourism HospitalityD. UNDER THE SCHOOL OF INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) Information Technology & Computer ScienceThe introduction of the NC(V) results in the phasing out of Nated phasing-in and phasing-out is being done in the following manner:2 Each NQF level is offered as a ONE YEAR qualification, January to NC(V) qualification has a total of SEVEN SUBJECTS per NQF level.

3 THREE of the seven subjects are called FUNDAMENTAL SUBJECTS, they are common for all learning areas(sub-fields) and are also COMPULSORY. The three fundamental subjects are:1. Life Orientation2. Language/Communication3. Maths (ET & ICT students) or Maths Literacy (EDB & HHS Students)The purpose of the fundamental subjects is to provide a foundation upon which to build the vocational subjects. Each student must enroll for FOUR VOCATIONAL SUBJECTS in eachlearning area. The four vocational subjects are compulsory and in some cases, a student willchoose a fourth vocational subject from a few optional subjects. To enroll for any of the NC(V) qualifications at NQF Level 2, a prospective student: must have a Grade 9 pass or a higher qualification; OR - must have an NQF Level 1 qualification; OR must have an approved bridging programme designed for the specific purpose to access NQF Level 2; OR go through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment to meet the basic requirements for access to NQF Level 2 To enroll for NQF Level 3, a student must have completed a relevant NQF Level 2.

4 You must pass all SEVEN subjects to obtain the NC(V) qualification at a particular level and to progress to the next NQF Level. The pass requirement for the four vocation subjects is 50% per subject The pass requirement for the fundamental subjects is as follows: Life Orientation 40% Language/Communication 40% Maths/Maths Literacy 30%DURATION OF STUDYCURRICULUMADMISSION REQUIREMENTSPASS REQUIREMENTS3 Only ONE fundamental subject may be condoned for a maximum of 5%:Please remember that this a year qualification and should you fail, you may be required torepeat the course or write supplementary final pass mark is compiled from an Internal Assessment mark and an ExternalExamination mark. Internal Assessment is continuous throughout the year and ExternalExamination is written during November of each Assessment is comprised of Formative and Summative Assessment includes class tests, standardized tests and performance Assessment includes class work, assignments, research projects, etc.

5 BothFormative and Summative Assessment work results in a Portfolio of Evidence (PoE). This PoE is crucial as the Internal Assessment counts as follows towards the final pass mark:Fundamental Subjects 25% of the final markVocational Subjects 50% of the final markThe examination is external as the Directorate Examinations & Assessment sets theexamination nationally. This means that all students write the same examination paperon the same day for a particular subject. This sets national standards for assessmentand achievement.
