Year 6 Leadership Badge ceremony - Last Friday I was extremely honoured to present the new leaders for 2017 with their respective badges. Thank you to our Year 6 students, their parents and families for attending and making this special event a memorable experience. We were very pleased to host our special guests who included our P&C President Rachel Kendrick, RSL City Sub Branch President Andrew Kilgour, Trevor Evans MP, Grace Grace MP, and Vicki Howard Cr.

2 Thank you to our New farm staff for their behind the scenes work in the lead up to this event. Special thanks to Mr Steve Conde and Mr John Rafter for preparing the students for the ceremony. Thank you to Rachel Nixon for taking photos on the day and Jamilah Butler for her help with the morning tea. Well done to our Year 5 students Zara and Jea for being our speakers for the morning. Please see an arrangement of photos from this event in the newsletter. Principals Conference- This week I will be attending the annual Principal s conference. Mrs Cassie Buckley our Deputy Principal will be available to be contacted during this week. Formal Visits to classrooms- I have now begun my formal visits to each classroom during last week. With a strong focus on reading this is a learning and mentoring experience for the teachers. It is wonderful to see the students engaging in their new learning environments.

REMEMBER- EVERY DAY COUNTS! Year 6 Leadership Badge Ceremony for 2017- City Cluster Moderation session- This week our Master teacher Kay Bradley will present and host approximately 50 Year 3 teachers form the City Cluster schools for a moderation session.

4 Teachers from here at New farm SCHOOL will be travelling to other locations for different year level moderation events. Parking in Heal Street - We continue to experience high levels of traffic in the Heal street area in the morning and afternoons. Please remember to observe the signed parking restrictions set by the Brisbane City Council. Please do not double park or block neighbour s driveway whist waiting for your child. Please be reminded to follow the Crossing Supervisor instructions when moving your vehicle in and around the James street crossing. Remind your children to observe the instruction given by the supervisor when crossing James Street. Tuckshop Order Online Don t forget you can order tuckshop through FlexiSchools, see below for further information and the link to the FlexiSchools website. ON LINE ORDERING To order on line please go to it is quick and easy to use.

5 We encourage everyone to do this as you can order in advance or for the whole term. Cut off time is for both Wednesday and Friday. FlexiSchools - Online Ordering and Cashless Schools Flexischools is the fast and secure way to order and pay for canteen, uniforms, events, excursions, fundraisers and fees - everything in and around your SCHOOL ! IMPORTANT INFORMATION If you have pre-ordered online and your child is going to be absent from SCHOOL you will need to cancel the order before with Flexischools otherwise it will still go through as an order. With the system we cannot change or cancel orders from the tuckshop. COUNTER ORDERS If you do order over the counter please order before otherwise we cannot guarantee that we will have all the menu items available. Please clearly mark your child's name and class and be careful not to include foreign coins as the bank does not accept these.

6 We do prefer you to order online though as it is more efficient and saves you having to wait in line to place an order. If you are a keen baker and can donate some home bake or have an hour to spare on a Wednesday or Friday morning come and see us at tuckshop and we will let you know how you can help out. Year Book 2016- If you missed ordering a Year Book last year and would like to order a Year Book, please contact the office on 7333. Cost $25 Cash only. SCHOOL roll marking- Our first bell rings at , this is when students make their way to their classes and start getting organised for the day. Once the second bell rings at all students should be present and seated in their classroom ready for the roll marking. If your child arrives after this roll marking they will be required to present to the office to be issued with a late slip. This is an extremely important part of the daily reporting for absences.

7 Students arriving to assembly without a late slip will be required to obtain one from the office prior to joining their class. Absence from SCHOOL Please contact the office absentee line on 3358 7333 option 1 or via email All students need to be accounted for each day. Please leave the following information when calling or emailing. Your name and contact number, your child's name and their class, their reason for absence and length of absence if known. We cannot have any unexplained absences on our rolls each day. If you are going on holidays please contact the office prior to leaving on your holiday. SMS Notifications for absences - We have now begun the SMS4schools notification. These are sent out from the office after the classroom roll marking and recorded absences have been entered. SMS Notifications for absences - You will receive a SMS if the following scenarios happen:- 1.

8 You have not notified the SCHOOL of your child s absence by Phone or email are our preferred options. Phone 3358 7333 option 1 or 2. Your notification is received later than 9am. Our reporting process needs to be timely. 3. You have not notified the SCHOOL of holiday or scheduled time off. 4. You are attending an off campus activity and have not notified the office. 5. You arrived late for class or assembly and are not signed in at the office for a late slip. All movements regarding children must be recorded through the SCHOOL office. Please respond to the SMS immediately by an SMS and the reply will be generated in our Oneschool database to correct the unexplained absence. SCHOOL Pickup times and Office hours- Parents please be reminded that our office closes at each afternoon. All students should be collected by the second bell at Any students left unsupervised at this time will be taken to Jabiru before and after SCHOOL care as emergency supervision.

9 Fees will apply to parents on collection of child. Any students attending Community Education Program classes are reminded to go straight to the class areas. Change of Details- Please remember to have your contact details up to date if we need to contact you at short notice or in an emergency. We use this contact at the end of each semester for our report cards to be sent to and of course your weekly newsletter. Uniform shop Tuesday and Wednesday for Term 1.
