Welcome Back! Welcome back to all our students and staff after what I hope was a fantastic summer break. I have already heard lots of stories about amazing holidays and exciting times, and it has been great to see everyone return safe and sound, and excited about another year. It has been particularly good to see our new Year 7s, who have made an excellent start to their secondary school lives, and we have also welcomed a record number of students into other year groups. We have also had some new staff start in the Trust at the start of term: Mrs Mellors has taken up her post as the Head of Alderman White School I know that the staff and pupils have made her feel very welcome. She is joined on the teaching staff at Alderman White by Chloe Leyland (Science), Jack Allsopp (History), Ryan Chapman (Maths), Jake Barker (English), and by Emma Brown, responsible for Reprographics.
At Bramcote College, we have welcomed Jacqueline Banger (Head of Business and Computer Science), Eilidh Vizard, Tracey White (both Science), Kate Wood (Student Support Mentor) and Emily Palmer (Science Technician). Most of these appointments are permanent, although some are covering maternity leave. We will also be joined by a very strong group of teaching students, most of whom start later in the term. Although we have a very stable staff situation on the whole, it is always good to have new people joining us, bringing new ideas and perspectives. I would like to wish all of our new arrivals, whether staff or students, the very best for their time in our schools, and I sincerely hope and expect that they will be very happy and successful here. They join our schools at an exciting time for us, as we start what promises to be a fantastic year, with an amazing range of trips and visits, including two trips to China; a host of music, drama and dance performances in the pipeline; the continuing progress of our new school building project; and continued and improving academic success.

AldermanWhite BramcoteColl BC6F WHPF ederation Alderman White School Bramcote College Bramcote College Sixth Form Cycling to School It is great to see some of our students cycling to school this week, as well as those regularly cycling last year. We want to make sure that everyone is safe and responsible whilst travelling to and from school, so the rules we have asked our students to follow are: Your bike must be roadworthy. Your bike must have functional brakes. You must wear a helmet.
You must not ride your bike on school premises. Outside of school, be respectful to all pedestrians and road users. We want all students using bikes to have a helmet by Monday, and as the mornings and evenings become darker during the Winter months it is recommended that all bikes are fitted with lights, to enable them to be seen by other road users. Thank you very much for your support with this. Mr G Remon Year 5 and 6 Open Evenings The staff and students of both Alderman White School and Bramcote College would like to invite you to our Year 5 & 6 Open Evenings. The Open Evenings offer prospective parents and students an opportunity to have a look round our school, find out more about our achievements, facilities and future plans. There will also be a chance to talk informally to both staff and students. The evenings will include a presentation from Executive Principal Paul Heery and the respective Heads of School, Annwen Mellors at Alderman White and Heidi Gale at Bramcote College.
There will be a range of activities for Year 5 & 6 children to participate in, including: science experiments, maths games and much more! If you are unable to attend, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to arrange another time for you to visit, see the school, and speak to our staff. Bramcote College PTA - AGM Come along and say hi - The Bramcote College PTA AGM will take place on Thursday 4th October, in college. The meeting is informal and is a great chance to come along and say hello if you are interested in supporting or joining us (if you need to bring children along to then please do - the more the merrier and the meeting will be finished by 8pm) We are a very small and friendly PTA and would love to welcome more members and helpers, particularly from Year 7 & 8 families, so that fundraising continues for all our children and events can be organised for school and the local community.
We know that finding time to volunteer really isn t easy but hope that every family will help in some way: As a PTA Member: The time commitment is only around 1 hour each half term, to attend a meeting and make decisions on where money should be spent and what fundraising activities should be organised. As a PTA Helper: The time commitment is whatever you can offer and covers things such as setting up or running stalls at events. Please come along or get in touch if you d like more info: email Bramcote College PTA Language Classes For All. The Alderman White School Language College starts its new season of language classes on the 15th September. There are classes offering additional languages for students including some initial lessons in Japanese beamed live via video link from Japan, as well as courses in Arabic, Urdu and Mandarin. We are also offering a very extensive range of language classes for adult learners which for the first time includes Polish and Russian.
Adult classes cost just 5 per session - there are also family classes on Saturdays, all at unbeatable prices not to mention some after school classes for primary pupils in French, Mandarin and Spanish. For further details please email or see the Alderman White website. WHP students can attend the classes free of charge. Mr K Stephan Year 13 UCAS Information Evening - 11th September We would like to invite parents of Year 13 students to an information evening to explain the UCAS process in more detail, taking place at 5pm on 11th September. You may be aware we ran our Next Steps day in July for all students to begin the process of preparing them for their post Year 13 options. As part of the day, students received information about both university and apprenticeship route. Your son/daughter should have now registered for both UCAS (the University and College Admissions Service) and for the national apprenticeship service.
We encourage all students to look carefully at both options and consider the pros and cons of each. We also encourage all students to apply to university to ensure they have kept their options open (this would mean they would pay the 24 administration fee but would not be committed to taking a university place). We have encouraged students to continue with their research over the summer and attend university open days. They have also been asked to work on their UCAS personal statements ready for the deadline of 21st September 2018, by which time they should have submitted a first draft to their form tutors. The session should take no more than 45 minutes with time for questions after the presentation.
