2 The ci rcular encloses the l egal Directions, s ervice s pecification and operational s upport documents which together outl i ne how the s ervice s hould operate. Thi s Approved list of Products has been developed by representatives of all 14 NHS Health Boards with i nput from Community Pharmacy Scotland and other key s takeholders. It details the l i mited list of i tems whi ch may be s upplied to el igible patients fol l owing a consultation in response to pres enting s ymptoms. Wherever possible, providing lifestyle advice and support to manage minor conditions should be the preferred course of action, wi th treatment s upplied and referrals made only where neces s ary. With the exception of s ections (Skin: Eczema and allergy) and (Cystitis), the i tems detailed i n the Approved Li s t can be s upplied across all NHS Boards.

3 In s ections and , each NHS Board has indicated the Approved items which may be s upplied by community Pharmacy teams i n thei r area. The medi cines l isted should be us ed wi thin thei r GSL or P l icensed i ndication, and the POM Products l isted should only be us ed under the terms of the rel evant Patient Group Directions (PGDs). The Approved l ist s erves only to detail the treatments available under the s ervi ce the Pharmacist mus t use thei r own professional judgement at all ti mes to determi ne the bes t course of acti on for each patient. Only those s pecific items and pack sizes which appear on this l ist wi ll be rei mbursed i f s upplied under the NHS Pharmacy First Scotland s ervice.

4 Where a patient wi shes to us e a particular product which does not appear on the Approved Li s t and the Pharmacist agrees that this i s s afe and appropriate, the pati ent may purchase that product. The Approved Li st i s arranged according to BNF category, wi th Products wi thin each category l isted alphabetically. Sel ection of Products s hould be based on the Pharmacist s assessment of clinical appropriateness for each i ndividual patient. However, where there i s a clear First -line choice of treatment thi s is i ndicated. A new s ecti on of the Scotti sh Drug Tariff, Part 17, hosts the Approved l ist of Products .
