Daley, General Services AdministrationTechnology AdministrationDavid J. Barram, AdministratorCheryl L. Shavers, Under Secretary for TechnologyNational Institute of Standards and TechnologyRaymond G. Kammer, DirectorAbstractThis Guide is intended for use by General Services Administration staff or design consultants whenpreparing specifications for Interoperable building control systems using BACnet technology.

3 Itexplains the issues that need to be considered when Specifying the communication details and makessome recommendations for the choices involved. It is not a sample specification and it does notaddress all issues important for a good control system specification. The focus is on specific issuesrelated to the interconnection and interoperation of building automation systems and devices usingBACnet. It is intended to complement more general guidelines for direct digital control systems forbuilding automation words: BACnet, building automation and control, direct digital control, energy managementsystems, communication protocol, ANSI/ ashrae Standard 135 AcknowledgmentsThe authors wish to acknowledge the significant contributions to this Guide made by the members ofASHRAE SSPC 135, the "BACnet Committee.
