Other standard APJ and CPHplugs of the same rating, style andnumber of poles may be used with NRreceptacles, as well as with AR andAREA, receptacles listed in Section 1P,with DR receptacles listed in Section 2P,with DBR, NBR, NSR, WSR, CSR,WSQC, and WSRD receptacles listed inSection 3P and with FSQ, EPC, FSQC,W2SR, C2SR and EPCB receptacleslisted in Section 4P.

4 Portable equipment, suitable forlocations and equipped with the properNPJ plug, can be used with non-hazardous AR receptacles; with DBRand WSR interlocked receptacleslocated in non-hazardous locations; withEPC, EPCB and FSQC receptacles forClass I, Groups B, C, D hazardouslocations; with DR and DBR receptaclesfor Class II, Groups F, G hazardouslocations; and with NBR/NSR, CSRinterlocked receptacles for hose downand corrosive : NPJ plugs are Style 2, which includes agrounding conductor in the flexible cordor cable that is electrically connected tothe extra (grounding) pole. NR receptacles are Style 2, in which theground connection is made before lineand load poles engage, and is brokenafter line and load poles disengage.

5 The National Electrical Code andCanadian Electrical Code requires thatunder conditions favorable to corrosion,the grounding conductor for enclosuresand equipment be of copper or othercorrosion-resistant material in alternatingcurrent systems. This necessitatesrunning another conductor, usually ofcopper, back to the common groundingelectrode. This may be run through theconduit containing the circuitconductors. At the receptacle, thisgrounding conductor should beconnected to the extra (grounding) poleby the pressure connector provided forthat purpose.
