1 Project Assignment for Nothing but the Truth by Avi Complete BOTH parts of this assignment. Submit work on Google Classroom by April 28. All work must be completed outside of class time. 1. Choose and complete one of the bulleted items for the novel. Your response should be no less than three detail-filled paragraphs and should refer to the novel use of quotes (give page numbers) to support your claims about the novel would be recommended. The novel that Philip Molloy likes best is The Outsiders. If you have read this novel, decide what elements in the novel appeal to Philip and why. Write a critique of the book from Phillip's point of view, explaining why he likes it. DO NOT select this option if you have not read The Outsiders.

2 Nothing but the Truth begins with two questions [before page 1]. Discuss what message you think the author wants to convey with the two questions. Consider the following: (1) Is telling only part of the Truth dishonest? (2) Are there situations in which unfairness to an individual is justified? (3) Should a person always tell the Truth even if the Truth will hurt others? (4) Does justice require more than the enforcement of rules? (5) Are there circumstances when rules should be broken? AND 2. Choose two of the following to respond to about the novel. Each response should be 8 to 10 detail-filled sentences and should refer to the novel use of quotes (give page numbers) to support your claims about the novel would be recommended.

3 * Add on to the end of the story, explaining what the main character thinks about what has happened throughout the course of the novel. Use a storytelling format that is like the format used throughout the novel. * How can listening to each other solve problems before they start? How important is communication in the major, and even what we consider minor, aspects of our lives? * Do we have the right to undermine authority just because we feel like it? Are there some circumstances when it would be okay to undermine authority because of our values? When should we obey authority figures even when we may not completely agree with them? * How can pride get in the way of what is best for us and others?

4 How does it discourage respect and listening and all of the important things in our society? * Does telling the Truth mean telling the whole Truth , or is it still the Truth even if you stretch it beyond recognition? * What is the meaning of the novel s title to Philip Molloy? To the audience of the novel? Does this meaning change or evolve as the novel progresses for either Philip or you?
