2 They manage all aspects of clerical/administrative and related activities ina large scale administrative operation concerned with the intake and processing of information such as inquiries,complaints, or forms, or with the collection of fines, taxes and other revenue; are responsible for the overalloperation of an office performing difficult and responsible fiscal and bookkeeping work or performingadministrative or management work required for the conduct of hearings; serve as director of a large generaladministrative or departmental services office with responsibility for such functions as facilities management,duplicating, mail, and records management. In the office of an agency head, deputy commissioner or other veryhigh level executive responsible for administrative, departmental, analytical or management work, AdministrativeManagers oversee difficult and responsible work in the capacity of an executive assistant or principal assistant;may represent the executive at meetings; and perform related Working Conditions: Administrative Managers may be required to work shifts including nights,Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Salaries for promotionsto managerial assignments will be consistent with the Managerial Pay Plan. A unique andvalid email address is required to file online.

All new OASys accounts requireverification before a candidate can submit an application to ensure the accuracy of candidate is instantaneous for most accounts, but some accounts may require up to 24 hours to bereviewed by a staff member and resolved. Email notification will be sent to those creating accounts thatrequire additional documentation before they can be resolved. Please keep this information and theapplication period deadline in mind when creating your account. Include Housing Manager as an eligible title on a collateral basis; and2. 6 This guide gives important information about requesting analternate test date because of religious observance or a special test accommodation for disability, claimingVeterans' or Legacy credit, and notifying DCAS of a change in your mailing address. Follow all instructions onthe Special Circumstances Guide that pertain to you when you complete your "Application for EXAMINATION ."ELIGIBILITY TO TAKE EXAMINATION : This EXAMINATION is open to each employee of an agency under thejurisdiction of the Commissioner, Department of Citywide Administrative Services who on the date of themultiple-choice test:(1)holds a permanent (not provisional) competitive appointment or appears on a Preferred List (seeNote, below) for the title of Principal Administrative Associate or Principal PoliceCommunications Technician or Workers Compensation Benefits Examiner or Associate CallCenter Representative or Education Officer or Associate Contract Specialist or ProcurementAnalyst or Resident Buildings Superintendent (HA) or Housing Manager.

7 And(2)is not otherwise admission of employees in the titles of Education Officer, Associate Contract Specialist, ProcurementAnalyst, Resident Buildings Superintendent (HA), or Housing Manager is on a collateral basis and applies to thisexamination only. It is not to be considered a precedent for future examinations.(Note: A "Preferred List" is a civil service list which is only for certain former permanent incumbents of theeligible title who have rehiring rights.)This EXAMINATION is also open to employees who were appointed to an eligible title pursuant to New York StateCivil Service Law, section 55-a, and who meet all other eligibility you do not know if you are eligible, check with your agency s personnel office. You may be given the testbefore we verify your eligibility.

8 You are responsible for determining whether or not you meet the eligibilityrequirements for this EXAMINATION prior to submitting your application. If it is determined prior to the test date thatyou are not eligible to participate in this EXAMINATION , you will not receive an Admission NOTICE to take themultiple-choice test, you will not be permitted into the test site, and your application fee will not be refunded. Ifit is determined after the test date that you are not eligible to participate in this EXAMINATION , your application feewill not be refunded and you will not receive a TO BE PROMOTED: In order to be eligible for promotion, you must have completed yourprobationary period in the eligible title as indicated in the above "Eligibility To Take EXAMINATION " section, andyou must be permanently employed in the eligible title or your name must appear on a Preferred List for theeligible title at the time of promotion.

9 Additionally, you must have served permanently in the eligible title forat least one year, unless your probationary period in that eligible title has been waived pursuant to Rule ofthe Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City of New TEST: The multiple-choice test will be given in a paper and pencil format. A score of at least 70% is requiredto pass this test. Your score on this test will determine 85% of your final score. Your seniority will determine theremaining 15%. You must pass the multiple-choice test to have your seniority credited. Your seniority score willbe 70 plus 1/2 point for each three months of completed, permanent, continuous service with an agency under thejurisdiction of the Commissioner, Department of Citywide Administrative Services in competitive class titles.

10 Yourservice will be credited through the date of the test, up to a maximum of 15 years. Time served prior to a breakin service of more than one year will not be multiple-choice test is designed to assess the extent to which candidates have the abilities determined to beimportant to the performance of the tasks of an Administrative Manager (AM). Task areas to be tested are asfollows: applying interpersonal abilities and skills to a variety of problems that occur; applying managerial andadministrative abilities and skills to a variety of problems that occur, including solving a variety of clerical, office,and administrative problems; solving problems by integrating or combining both interpersonal and administrativeskills; solving problems regarding the direction and planning of work, including work of a clerical, office, oradministrative nature; and designing policies and procedures for use at levels that may range from within theindividual work group to citywide implementation.
