3 On the Spring 2015 5th grade Science FCAT, Odyssey students were in the top three schools in Palm Bay for exceptional number of our students placed at last year s county science fair, with four students placing and an additional winning Best of Show for the entire Jr/Sr High School (7-10th grades, adding 11th in 2016 and 12th in 2017) 92% of the OCS Jr/Sr High 7th grade students scored proficient or higher on the Civics End-Of-Course Assessment this spring. This was the third highest score in all Brevard Public Schools, placing OCS in the top 5% of the state.

4 Odyssey s 8th grade FCAT Science scores significantly surpassed all surrounding public and Charter schools serving Palm Bay, as well as the Brevard County School District and State of Florida. OCS Jr/Sr High 9th grade students significantly outperformed Bayside, Heritage, and Palm Bay High and the state average on their Biology End-of-Course Assessments this spring. Additional scores coming in show that both OCS Elementary and OCS Jr/Sr High scored very well compared to local of Schools Ms.

6 Constance, Dr. Knight and Mayor Capote, inaugurating The Farm at Odyssey . Two years ago our students asked for more outdoor learning opportunities. The farm offers just that but so much more. Students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills as learning becomes connected to real life, offering them opportunities to gain knowledge in math, science, engineering and technology. A huge thank you to our partnerships with Lowes and Healthy Living the same day on the Eldron Campus, parents are invited to join their 4th-6th grade students during their lunch hour for our Annual Harvest Lunch.

7 Come learn about our Farm to School Program, present and future plans for The Farm at Odyssey , with plans for Odyssey s students to produce healthy food for our kitchen, as well as local restaurants, AND enjoy some quality time with your student(s).Read Aloud ProgramThe Read Aloud program is a wonderful way for parents to fulfill their volunteer hours while supporting their students academically, socially, and emotionally. In 1983, the Department of Education report Becoming a Nation of Readers found that, the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.

8 To participate in the Read Aloud program, parents should spend at least 15 minutes reading aloud literature to their child that is about two grades above their independent reading level. Then complete the Read Aloud log which can be provided by your classroom teacher or through the front office. Next turn in your log at the end of each month to your classroom teacher or to the front office and you will receive volunteer hours for the time spent reading aloud to your more information about the importance of reading aloud to your child, please visit Jim Trelease s web site at: School Public Accountability ReportThe annual Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) School Public Accountability Reports (SPARs) will be available for Odyssey Charter School in the near future.

9 The SPARs meet ESEA s requirement for School to provide parents with an annual School status report at the beginning of each School year. The Odyssey SPAR will be posted on the School s web-site at Policy Against Bullying and HarassmentOdyssey Charter School follows the Brevard Public Schools Student Code of Conduct. In response to state law the Jeffery Johnson Stand Up for all Students Act , the Brevard County School Board adopted a policy that prohibits bullying and harassment. The policy defines harassment as any threatening, insulting, or dehumaniz-ing gesture, use of data or computer software, or written, verbal or physical conduct directed against a student or employee that.

10 Places a student or employee in reasonable fear of harm to his or her person or damage to his or her property, has the effect of substantially interfering with a student s educational performance, opportunities, or benefits, has the effect of sub-stantially disrupting the orderly operation of a School .
